Interestingly - the page itself loads quickly, its not that the data is trickling into my router, it is a 20-30 second delay, then boom, it loads

Same issue on other devices or connection. Reboot the router?

every device on this connection has the same problem.

I will reboot the router though every other site I use is working just fine - here goes :)

why didn't I think of that :)

for my interest, how an earth does the router corrupt itself for a single site like that? doesn't make sense to me but then what do I know?!

It doesn't. Restarting the modem simply forces it to obtain a new connection. I have to do the same on my dial-up connection by simply disconnecting and reconnecting to "fix" some problems as well (or even simply forcing multiple attempts to load the page can help: Go-Stop-Reload-Stop-Reload-Stop-Reload-Stop-Reload). The fault is at Vodafone's end, possibly the "invisible" proxy forgetting you exist.
