Hi John,

I am also having similar issues and only with smtp.
Bog standard Broadband setup, Vodafone router ADSL2
Using smtp.ihug.co.nz on port 25

When trying to send emails 1st they take a very long time to go thru (if they do)
and 2nd they fail with authentication requesting a new password (I ignore this)
and 3rd they eventually succeed on the 3rd to 6th retry, but very slow to send a
complete message, 10-20 seconds.

Mail used to get consistently sent in under 1-2 seconds at most, but now persistently slow.
Nothing changed here at all - using SeaMonkey Suite mostly and Firefox.

Do they not have an SSL connection for pop and smtp? I would be worried about using email on a public wifi zone if they don't.

Disrespective: Out of interest, does Vodafone have an smtp server that can be used when not on a Vodafone network?

Yup, smtp.vodafone.co.nz no SSL, port 25 should work on any ISP network if you use a valid username and password to authenticate.

Yup just tried a test message again - went thru on the 4th retry rather than immediately - problem seems consistent...

Can anyone at Vodafone do a trace on my test message and check the port numbers being used?

My software says it's configured for port 25, but the default port for the SeaMonkey mailer software is 587, commonly used instead of 25 to improve security.

Could my software be sending on 587 regardless of the configured 25, ie a bug?
How would the smtp server respond to a 587 port request, would it proxy it to port 25 (after a time) and let it thru?

I'm clutching at straws here guys..

Thanks John,

Would like to get to the bottom of this issue as sending mails take a lot of extra time with retries and occasionally timeout also
Thanks again
David

PS Am available Monday if you need to monitor my test emails at your end.

My mum is having similar issues with her @ihug.co.nz username and her modem/router configuration.

It's been working fine but now the modem won't authenticate with vodafone and she has no internet connection

I also noticed at webmail.vodafone.co.nz that she couldn't login with username@vodafone.co.nz but needed to use username@ihug.co.nz

I'm guessing she needs a new account name, i.e

not: username@ihug.co.nz but instead username@vodafone.co.nz

Is it possible to change/transfer the account name to an @vodafone.co.nz one like that?
