The voice is clear: these On Account customers want to receive similar plans, add-ons, etc.

Is it clear now?

I wonder if Vodafone has clicked with that yet?
Remember when dial-up internet was charged on time or data and then someone came along (may have been Ihug) and offered flat-rate at $40/month? Remember what happened?
It will only take a new player to offer flat-rate on voice or data and the whole playing fiels will tilt dramatically.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

It's becoming clearer. But surely on account customers have the option to close their account and move to prepay to get the advantage/features they desire? If the difference is so significant I'd expect them to be moving over in droves.

With Vodafone moving from On Account to Prepay (and vice-versa) means losing your phone number. It also means that if you are planning to roam you would have to let them have your credit card on file for charges - and I don't like the idea of not knowing how much they would be charging to a credit card.

Also people need a statement, an invoice, whch you can't get with Prepay (stupid, isn't it?). Andif you are on Prepay there's no data plan, only casual data.

So Vodafone Ne Zealand pretty much offers the not so good thing for both sides, and is not making anyone happy, really.

I think it is ludicrous that people here are arguing about who should receive the poorer service. Both groups are suffering. I'm on prepay, I'm waiting for vodafone to allow portability to prepay so my partner and I can use Bestmate. Yes, postpay doesn't have this, but there is nothing stopping people from having 2 phones, postpay and prepay for bestmate. Plus of course, a Telecom prepay phone for calling Telecom phones and another prepay sim card on Weekends/Nights to call VF cellphones for 50c a minute, because Supa Prepay prices are rip off prices.

Basically, we are waiting for competion. Orcon will be offering cellphone service in a few months, will they offer lower charges? I've been waiting 9 years for low rates, I guess I can wait a few years until NZ Communications start operating properly.

Agreed. Both sides [telecom and vodafone] both have major problems which can only be started to get fixed when more competition comes.

So your saying we should have:
1x Vodafone On Account
2x Vodafone Prepay
1x Telecom Prepaid
and possibly 1x Telecom Postpaid

Hmm, 5 phones just to get the best deal depending on who and when you want to call or text. What the general consensus seems to be here on GZ is that Postpaid customers generate alot more revenue, on average per connection than prepay users, and therefore they should be the ones getting the best deal. Also, not only do they generate more revenue, but they also often sign term contract which means they are committing their business to that carrier for a period of time. Yes they give you some extra free minutes or a small subsidy on your handset, but I think this needs to be taken into account when discussing who should be entitled to the best value for money pricing.

It's also understandable that carriers will have some on-network deals where its cheaper to call or text on-net however with only 2 players in the NZ market this should, in theory, mean that to get the best value for money you would only need 2 phones MAX, 1 on each network, and bost PostPaid.
