sbiddle: It's a shame they've focused solely on high APRU Red Plans - Red plans start at $99 per month, and now allowed this on any other current on account plans.

I use my phone a reasonable amount as a WiFi hotspot and it would be nice to simply have another SIM card tied to my existing account so I didn't need to use the hotspot.

Yah I agree with this.

My partner and I both on old Smart $60, and we both have +$10/512MB for our tablet each. I also have a prepaid account for my Nexus 5

I wonder how this Red Sharer can work for us as a household unit (3x smartphones and 2x tablets).

Current Spend $60 + $60 + $10 + $10 + prepay = $140 +prepay

Red Essentials Open Term = $69  (http://www.vodafone.co.nz/mobile-plans/sim-only/)
+1 Red Share Mobile = $29  (running total is $98)
+1 Red Share Tablet = $0  (running total is $98)
+1 Red Share Tablet = $0  (running total is $98)  (not including the Nexus5)

That's a $40 saving PLUS you get to go nuts with calls without having to keep an eye on your minutes.

The only thing you would have to watch is your data.  $10 for another 500Mb shared if you run out of the 1.5Gb allowance.  Personally I use the Vodafone app to check my balance fairly often.

If you are hardly using the Nexus5 then just leave it on Prepay.  Or you can add it as another Red Share Mobile and still be saving $10/month over the current spend (plus whatever you were spending on prepay).

EDIT - Adjusted numbers and changed a Gb to an Mb

Cheers for the quick calculation.

Sorry it is Smart Data $80 plan. And we also have phoneInsure ($9.95+GST) each. We currently have 1GB extra on top of the included 1GB data allowance (so 2GB total).

The prepay isn't being used that much.

$10 for 500GB???

VERY well spotted... I hadn't seen that fine print.  I've had a pretty reasonable look and not seen an answer to this.

i suspect he meant 500MB given that he talks about 1.5GB of data after that.

I would think if you went to the $29 Red Share Mobile then she could go nuts with calling but you would lose her data.

Whoops slight decimal point adjustment required there.

Seems to be a fairly easy decision to make the move...  that's $40 plus another $40 you will be saving.

@Dynamic, next question is. I wonder how much will it be to break the 24 months term. May revisit this when iPhone 6 is out and see whether it's worthy the breakage.

But she would keep the number she has ?

I'm enthusiastic about this plan, but am not Vodafone staff.  Sometimes it is worth break fees to make a greater saving in the long term.  Did this with my mortgage some time ago - $1500 break fee but saved $3500 in interest.

I'm 90% sure that Vodafone started allowing you to move to contract while keeping your prepay number a couple of years ago.
