I have seen JohnR mention several times that Vodafone is putting money into their HFC network yet the service seems unreliable.

Because HFC is present where fibre is not.

I've heard rumours another upgrade is coming on HFC, and on routes. But those have been around for some time...

I will chime in with having the same problems.
I am also an ex-Telstraclear cable customer.

While I am mostly sitting on over 80Mpbs, everything feels like it is in quicksand for browsing, simple banners on pages are loading like I have the old dial-up modem plugged in from 1990.
Sometimes there are delays of 10-20 seconds of browsing, where no data is transferred at all.

When there issues are evident, there is a noticeable high ping and/or packetloss  in-network on the telstraclear appliances. We are talking 70-80ms.

Of course they all look fine now when I am trying to do one as an example...but it was that way for hours.

I was told in may that Vodafone will be "opening up 2 new big pipes for traffic 1 to AU and another to US, AU is not far away almost ready and US about 6 weeks later."

Not sure if they have or not but my AU performance over the last 2 weeks has doubled. So i would assume its been done. Cant wait for US one!

Problems still around today?

Also everyone, for future reference; we can’t do much about general rumours. If you have a problem please get a fault ticket lodged with our call centre. It will expedite matters considerably and get the right people on to the job much quicker than waiting for one of us to pick up a thread here or notice a tweet after a few hours.

Also, assuming that our proxy/cache is always the fault is very short-sighted. Sorry but not all problems come down to proxy or master filters! There are many other things that can influence browsing speed other than the popular opinion.

It seems fixed now, ping is down and sites are loading fine.

HFC network is different than a proxy, When I say HFC network I actually mean the NETWORK and not other elements attached to it

Grr! I can't even get to my forums most times! That's been like that for a week, I thought I was the only one.

Edit: It is not bad generally, but I would have to wait for a long while before the page renders. Once rendered it would run fine for 10 minutes, then the wait continues. Same if I was to leave the desk for a bit then come back to the site.

I am on cable. Unlimited, the fast one.

Sounds frustrating. Have you logged a fault for this? What testing/troubleshooting have you done?

Well have rebooted modem, cleared cached, rebooted PC, tried a different connection at the public library.

Vodafone 3G is not so bad, even though pretty slow. Have tried on Skinny and works fine, as in bearable.

Just the usual trouble shooting really.

Did the different connection at the library work better/worse/same?
