You clearly don't have a master filter installed if you can get sync in other jackpoints in the apartment... And therein lies the issue. It's highly likely you're in a marginal area and the bridge taps from the other jacks are impacting things.

I'd be curious to know how he got VDSL in the first place if he's 5kms from the cabinet/exchange.

They can't be 5km from the serving hardware

Hey, I'm only telling people what I was told over the phone. The Vodafone tech told me I was 5km from the cabinet when I rang yesterday. If this is incorrect then maybe Vodafone shouldn't be giving their customers false information.

It's just a error not false information but you can't be 5km

rocco: Yes, I have already tried plugging the modem into all other jack points in the apartment and the speed slowed by approx. 1mb/s on each jack.

So as advised above find the master telephone jack point and isolate the rest of the telephone house wiring from it " If you don't know what you are doing get an expert in that does " like @coffeebaron here on Geekzone

Perhaps like a technician from a the network provider, who is engaged by the ISP?

johnr: Please post modem VDSL line stats

What is the point in asking for these when the modems you send out don't show any attenuation or SNR reading it's a little difficult to judge what is going on just by the DL/UL sync speed alone isn't it

100% correct.  This isn't something that the customer should be doing when they have signed a contract with VF on the basis that VF will provide the splitter installation.

Vodafone have paid Chorus for the installation of a master splitter in your property  (and therefore you as a customer have paid for it in your overall packafe).
So if Chorus have not put one in, then they need to come back and do so.

If they say there is no way to do it, then I would be demanding $253.52  (that's what VF say it is worth in their Ts and Cs) back from Vodafone because they have not provided the service they said they would.

Then Vodafone will have to sort out the difference with Chorus and get a credit back from them.

Thanks guys for your information. It's a pity the information came from everyone else except Vodafone! I guess it's back on the phone to them I go.

Hi,

Just a quick update. After the 6th call to Vodafone it appears that the tech should have installed a new jack or at least modified the existing one. Since absolutely nothing was done during installation, that is the reason for the speed being around the same as ADSL. They have arranged for a tech to come back to my house and do the job properly.

The tech that came to my house APPARENTLY did a full installation when in fact all he did was ring me beforehand, tell me he was not installing a master splitter, told me to plug in my modem, arrived at my house and stood in my living room for approx. 2 minutes making a phone call to activate my VDSL. The 6th person I spoke to at Vodafone said that what the tech did is extremely strange and definitely not what he was supposed to do.

I feel slightly better now and will update after the second tech has been with my hopefully faster speed and better experience.

its sad when a tech doesnt do their job correctly unfortunately, if they note that it has been done, it becomes a he said she said sort of situation...

chorus will most likely send that same tech out, as "he knows what he did wrong".

best of luck...

Hmm, so this is weird. The Vodafone tech just rang me back and told me that the Chorus tech must have modified my phone jack without me knowing and they will not be sending anyone now. Without me knowing? I was standing with the guy the entire time he was here. HE DID NOTHING TO MY JACK POINTS! I'm almost on the verge of changing service providers now. One step forward and then one hundred steps back with Vodafone.

Oh, I forgot the add, when they rang me back they spun me the whole "Wait two more weeks and your speed may improve." line after telling me the Chorus tech should have installed a new jack or modified my existing one. I kept repeating that I saw everything the tech did and he did not touch my jacks but the Vodafone tech kept talking over me saying "He must have modified it, that makes more sense to me." Ok, mate, whatever you say, I'm just the customer, obviously I talk out my ass.
