If I do an nslookup on a site that is not responding, I get DNS error timeout as a response.

I'm getting two things happening to me when on GZ that I'm not sure of what's causing them.

  1. When I go to comment on a thread most often the text box isn't there and I have to refresh the page multiple times to get it to show up. That's probably website related or maybe browser side, I will have to look into that later.
  2. I constantly get white page that says something like 'Geekzone is undergoing maintenance'. I have to refresh many times to access GZ and it's really annoying. Is this related to the dns issue. Seems like I just have an issue reaching the site.
Are these dns issues or something else?

Out of interest, have the DNS server addresses for the TC cable network changed at any time?  Just wondering what they should be.

Had the same issue, pages not loading and having to be refreshed all the time, pages half loading sometimes too.

I'm ex-telstraclear on the 150gb 50mbps down cable plan currently if that's useful to anyone.

Figured it felt like a DNS thing so I swapped out my DNS servers (which used to be the normal telstraclear 203.97.78.43 & 203.97.78.44) for google's 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 and all seems to be running smoothly again, no more annoying fails to load.

I think ISP servers are meant to be better (don't know much about DNS so don't know why) so it'd be great if it could be announced here once the issues are fixed so that we can go back to the Vodafone servers if that's what going to be best for us.

Hi folks,

Would love to get some more examples - Have only received one so far. :)

TwoSeven: If I do an nslookup on a site that is not responding, I get DNS error timeout as a response.

Could you please let us know the timestamps if this happens again?

The correct DNS servers for Vodafone/exTCL Cable should be 203.97.78.43 & 203.97.78.44.

The Paradise DNS servers, 203.96.152.4 & 203.96.152.12, were previously used as well.

I'd love to help but got so pissed at this that I started using a third party DNS in our router until this issues seems fixed. Failed lookups on Geekzone, BillBennet.co.nz even BNZ.co.nz and other sites were getting really annoying...

That's interesting.
I had cable installed in May and the installer gave me (wrote down) the Paradise server addresses.
Which I've been having a stupid amount of trouble with failed lookups, etc too - have switched to 3rd party DNS until it's resolved.

Perhaps I'll try the 203.97 addresses.

After all those years I keep reading about installers giving the wrong DNS to new cable customers. I don't understand why TelstraClear and now Vodafone haven't fixed this.

Having said that I use the 43/44 addresses and those are the ones having problems in the last few days (hence why using a third party for now).

I was having these same issues on cable in Wellington. Had been using the old Paradise servers (203.96.152.4 and 203.96.152.12). Nobody ever told me to stop using them! Completely borked today. Failed to resolve after five or more tries. For https also.

Have switched over to 203.97.78.43 and 203.97.78.44 to see if things improve.

I'm using NS1.ihug.co.nz (203.109.129.67) and NS2.ihug.co.nz (203.109.129.68) until this is sorted - working nicely for now.

thanks for that, i am still using the old
paradise dns servers (never got told I needed to change). last night I found some new addresses on the VF site (ending 129.67 and 129.68) these Had a 25ms ping and seem fine. There are others listed ending in 191.1 but they also have a pigh ping.

Those that have this issue, enter the following into command prompt for giggles/curiosity:

nslookup
server your-default-DNS-server-ip-here
random-domain-names.com

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Shame on your really VF..and you expect customers to solve this for you.

Surely you can implement systems to test this.

Considering all the bad press about this over the years isn't it time it was resolved once and for all?

Hey Guys,

So I think I'm using the old paradise DNS?

203.96.152.4

203.96.152.12

Do I assume correct?
