Hi All,

I'm having real issues with Vodafone DNS resolution on the old TCL Name servers at the moment i.e.  203.97.78.43 && 203.97.78.44

There appears to be a few people on Twitter with the same issues - Websites won't resolve, pressing F5 a few times eventually solves this problem... Works fine for web-browsers but not for things like Apps that wont re-try without quitting and re-starting

I've had to swap to alternatives for the moment, Now that we're actually Voda customers should we be using those name servers instead?  Anyone else having issues?

It's been happening for me in the last five days. Not sure it's DNS or the proxy playing up again. And no, I haven't contact their support as this is very random and I can't see how I'd convince someone there to escalate without examples...

Just now I tried visiting http://billbennett.co.nz/2014/06/15/neighbourly-launches-in-nz and had to refresh my browser three times before the DNS resolved correctly:

Then:

And I sent this out on Friday (48 hours ago)... I would say no one at Vodafone saw it, or simply ignored it thinking it was an one off:

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I get what freitasm gets in his first picture all the time and sometimes pages load like this

Vodafone needs to get their act together.

Exact same problem here ~1 week of issues - somethings deff borked. The fact that its happening for HTTPS sites as well as HTTP leads me to believe its DNS. I'll often fire off a ping command with an address and have it fail... again, trying a couple of times tends to get it to eventually resolve. :(

Oh, yes, that points to DNS then.

I've had this problem for a while too. Usually a single refresh is enough to get things going. Was using the old DNS servers, the problem persisted after updating them which might offer some clue.

It's not just a cable issue. I've had similar issues on VDSL as well. Can't be bothered contacting support for the reasons given by Mauricio. Then of course there's the pathetically long wait times, generally scripted nature of their support people/their unwillingness to listen etc to consider.

Yep, I've been having a problem as well for about 7-10 days on cable in CHC, mainly AU sites, http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/ takes 30-40 seconds to load and youtube I have to refresh screen to get video to start, I can't be bothered following it up with VF, just waiting for it to come right soon. Was using Firefox and Chrome, with add blockers disabled.

Also had a few probs with geekzone site saying that it is using a cache site as main site is down (something like that) and the posts are quite old, but a button at top left says try site now and it is latest posts (should of taken a screen shot)??

Im getting it here on cable in CHCH also..... I refuse to call the automated call system at vodafone it never gets it right and when you do get through to some its the usual can you restart your modem. Can you plug just the computer your using and change all your setting on that computer.... ffs i know what im doing and its not my equipment that's causing the issue. Due the the intermittent nature of these faults and after the hour long wait it's working again.

It seems like this is a long term issue that keeps coming back over and over again.

Why don't you guys move to a different ISP? Just curious as I'm planning to move back to Wellington. I am not sure if it is worth to get house with cable connection.

Vodafone cable is the only option available if you want fiber like speeds for many people in Wellington and Christchurch. I am a TCL ADSL customer who might be jumping over to cable 50/2, fiber isn't available till 2017-2018 for me and I can't predict what speeds I would get on VDSL so cable is my best bet.

Hi folks,

Thanks for all the information provided in this and other threads - we do read everything and we are listening. I've just spoken with the faults team, and we would love to get some specific examples so we can get the root cause identified and put fixes in place as soon as possible.

To save everyone having to call in & log individual tickets for what *could* be a common issue across the exTCL DNS servers - If you are a Vodafone customer experiencing DNS resolution issues (Or issues that could be related, e.g. the slow speeds/high ping to specific sites as noted in this thread), could you please send me a private message with the following information:

 - Your name
 - Your account number
 - The type of service you have (ADSL, VDSL, cable, or fibre)
 - Your IP address
 - Pathpings to the top two or three sites you frequent that you are experiencing issues accessing (unfamiliar with pathpings? There's a great guide here)
 - If you can't resolve a domain, an nslookup on that domain to see if DNS is failing would be very helpful (Please include timestamps if possible)

Alternatively, please feel free to email us at onlinecare@vodafone.co.nz, including 'DNS Resolution - Geekzone' in the subject line.

I'll get this information collated and forwarded on to the right team.

Thank you, again, for your patience with this. Hoping for a quick fix - but again, we do need tickets logged, as the better the information the faults team has, the easier a fix will be. Special thanks to all who have already logged tickets for this issue. I'll provide updates as soon as I have them.

Cheers,

 - Nik
