The only thing stopping me ditching Telstra Digital TV is that Freeview doesn't carry Prime, which carries some good stuff - BBC Horizon shows, Dr. Who Extras and Mythbusters among others.

I don't subscribe to any sports or movie channels except Rialto, which we never watch and which I'm going to ditch today, in fact. We rent DVDs if we want to watch a movie. Amalgamated DVD rental is $5. SKY can't compete.

I ditched my Sky Movie channels including Rialto recently and returned an additional decoder. If I could cancel the basic service and just retain Sport, the household would be happy.  The basic services are so full of ads (about nothing other than Sky promo's in some cases) and include station logo's that are really instrusive (note the change to UKTV station logo now in Blue!!!).  I guess I am not really that happy about PAYING to watch advertisements. From the perspective of a TV company, that must be the ultimate in audience control. Charging companies to advertise and us to watch the ads. You have to take your hat off to the TV guys, they are very clever.

I was interested to see how Telstra Clear do not even provide UKTV in their basic services. To get UKTV you need to purchase one of the add-on Movie or Sport packages. Again very clever manipulation of their audience base.

The PPV option with MySky is hardly worth the effort having already seen most of the offerings from the video library. You can also rent TV series from the video library. We recently rented the whole Six Feet Under collection for $7/season and a week to watch it. No ads, No Station Logo's, No interuptions and at least 5 DVD's per season etc...

To be honest, I think we get the TV we deserve. If we put up with inferior TV from any provider they are just encouraged to continue. The quickest way to get TV stations to listen is to just stop watching or close the account. They learn quickly.

Cheers Mike

Damn. So if I ditch Rialto, I lose UKTV, Food, Living, Disney, Disney Playhouse, Nickelodeon and History. Damn.

Nah. Still don't need them. Except UKTV is showing Shameless at the mo. Hilarious.

I rented The Wire season 1 from the library. I had a week to watch all 13 episodes. It was insane.

My wife wanted Food so we get Rialto, UKTV (which I watch occasionally) and the Disney channels which the kids watch.

But if you want to really see what channel management is all about, (not a TCL issue so slightly off topic) look at World TV. There are 9 channels in the package I think, we only watch one but have to pay $50 for all of them!  No a la carte at all :-)  I would $20 for one over $50 for 9.

Yeah, I think I'm going to change tack, and ask if she wants to spend $50/month just to get E and the Living Channel. :)
