I'm noticing a trend among my friends and associates.

They're all cancelling their TCL TV subscriptions!

They aren't converting to Sky either. I'm curious about the incidence rate among the general populace. Anyone else out there thinking of dumping subscription TV?

Personally, I watch so little TV now, I'd dump it in an instant, except that my wife would kill me if she couldn't get the lifestyle channel.

We have the old TelstraClear analogue service here... And we only watch the free to air channels most of the times. It would make more sense to simply cancel the service and get Freeview for us.

I watch all FTA over Freeview but that's downstairs. In the bedroom I have to use TCL cable. Plus if I cancelled I would get killed for losing Cartoon Network etc as well as E and the World TV group. I myself only watch the morning breakfast show (can't wait till TV3 gets their show going) and the evening news on TV3 (widescreen)

i don't get the whole "pay to watch ads" thing they have going on. Free view rules. Ads on free tv as all good and many are even nostalgic, watch this space.

Does anyone know if there is a freeview compatible decoder that also allows use of a standard smartcard for pay tv "decoding" ?

I cancelled Sky about a year ago and haven't looked back. I still do watch the odd program on free to view however the cost vs quality ratio that drew me to sky has disappeared with a lot of old content and heaps of ads.

While we rarely watch TV 'live' anymore, we have two MCE computers that record almost 24/7 leaving us with a constant supply of TV shows to watch whenever we can find time.

^ I live in a house where Food TV, The Living Channel or various cartoon are always being recorded. Oh, and the occasional programme on FTA TV.

hmm you aren't watching TV3 in widescreen on TC cause it is not in widescreen... well not till next week anyway.

Telstra/sky are very smart. We not only pay for digital in the lounge and analogue in the bedroom but also pay for the basic movie channel. Not because we want to watch the movies but because that gives us Disney and Living both of which I would be shot if I got rid of.

Sometimes I watch Discovery and Nat geo but that is about it other then the free view channels.

For decoding Sky? The answer is maybe. I've heard of people putting Sky cards into modded CAM modules to view Sky but don't know if it's possible with regular Sky cards or just the MySky cards (which are different).

i have this card and reader thing from jaycar but got rather lost when i was trying to find out how to load it up with the necessary codes. I want to get an unofficial decoder for freeview but it would be better to buy one i can play around with a bit more
