BMarquis:
Chorus being anal.

Can you elaborate?
How is defining a minimum service specification 'being anal'?

99% of the time ADSL customers with an attenuation up to 15-16 get VDSL. If a prequal says yes a tech will just do the job and call it a day.
Hopefully this is being tightened up, I have seen myself MANY customers who simply shouldn't have VDSL that got it.
These customers usually get around 20Mbp/s sync and 2-3Mbp/s up. with 26 VDSL attenuation or higher.

Well anal or not, I was told that it would give me similar to dial up speeds, now I'm no expert here but I'd hazard a bet that having 0.88 more than the cutoff would not suddenly drop a VDSL connection to near dial up speeds. That just seems like a ridiculous claim and an outright lie?

So who can I speak to, to make it happen? :P

Yeah, they usually get it due to pressure from ISPs to give the service ;)

That doesn't make Chorus anal for not giving the service when it shouldn't be.

There's no real way to know exactly how your line will react. It depends on what the cause of the attenuation is.
But you are right, it won't be dial up speed, that is a lie or mis-informed statement.

If you are given VDSL, but only see a slight improvement in sync rate, are you willing to pay the additional price for VDSL?

Seanskatesalot: Ok so what is the min or max attenuation for VDSL? Is mine too high or too low? Can I fight them on this and get it done?

Too high.
And no, you can't fight it. If you are given a VDSL service, it'll probably be followed with an "I'm not getting VDSL speed" thread.

I'm pretty sure it would be better than this (7.44down, 0.59up in case that link doesn't work) with the upload being more important to me, so I wouldn't be complaining.

If he has bad quality copper then yes decline it which i think is the case.
Otherwise it is a bit picky given the heaps of junk lines i see fly.

Not necessarily, no. It could also become unstable - causing random DSL resyncs.

The service is simply not available on your line - out of curiosity do you have a master splitter installed?

I don't get it... On one hand you are saying 'hopefully this is being tightened up', on the other you are saying 'its a bit picky'

That's quite a contradiction.

Don't think we have a master splitter, just the old school phone jack splitters. would that help?

It is,

I am meaning, I hope they tighten it up. But picky being i see others way worse get approved.

Well it may even lower the attenuation more if one is fitted. Could be bad internal wiring.
I can see if we can push for it but i think its already been rolled back to ADSL.

On a related side note, I'm looking at building in a 'barely' vdsl zone...
1) Do completely new connections now get master filters automatically.
2) will a prequal (if even possible BEFORE building) take into account wether there is already a m/filter in place, or just the 'raw' synch stats?

[edit] and in the OP's case, would fitting a master filter then get him in range, or is the test from the Demark already anyway?

1: No
2: Yes possible. Doesnt account for any master filter etc. Just electrical stats.

Kingston street is all screwed up because there used to be another cross connect cabinet close by which got removed when a cabinet further downstream got upgraded.
Your copper loop goes a lot further than you think! Plus Ilford is probably a multiple off Kingston so even worse for DSL.
