Which is better / would you prefer?

100/50 or 200/20?

I signed up for Vodafone ufb 100/50, and am still waiting for the insulation. With the price changes I think I can get 200/20 for the same price as the 100/50 I signed up with (assuming they will still honour that plan).

That's a good question. I primarily want bandwidth for gaming. They are honouring 100/50 if you put your order in before the plan change. Can anybody give me and the above poster a idea of what would be better?

I was going to get Vodafone's 100/50 plan over a month ago, but was just waiting for them to alter some billing information relating to me.

In that time, while waiting and complaining and escalating, the plan changed to 100/20. I'm a little disappointed to say the least.

I do note however, that MyRepublic is offering uncapped 100/50. Due diligence and then I'll sign.

Cheers

Jon

Just to make this clear (as I may not have done so in my earlier post) these are different Chorus plans. Vodafone haven't just decided to cut the upstream speed, they're actually using a different Chorus plan.

100/20 is the new Evolve template with a reduced CIR and has a $15 cheaper wholesale cost than the older 100/50 Bitstream plan. Since 99% of users will never use the CIR (unless they're using RSP supplied hardware for voice) it really makes no difference to them.

Bunny question: Is a reduced CIR better or worse? Is CIR the same as the contention ratio or the inverse?

Advanced bunny question: What's best for Skype (especially out to a landline in Europe)?

Whether it's better or worse depends on what you're using the CIR for. Headline UFB speeds have no CIR - they are 100% EIR. You can only access the CIR by tagging your upstream traffic with the correct 802.1p tag, something 99.99999% of users have no idea how to do.

Scotty1986: Does anyone know what happens to the people currently on 50 upload? Also the people like me who have been trying to sign up a month before this took affect?

I wonder if it's because the grid cannot handle the congestion or if it's political e.g. stop spammers (replace with anything or anyone unwanted) sending out stuff

No. Its a business decision, 100/20 is a cheaper plan, read above. They are reducing their costs.
