This is from Vodafones website -

Broadband

  • Ultra Fast 30 – up to 30 Mbps download, 10 Mbps upload
  • Ultra Fast 100 – up to 100 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload (Available to new customers from 9 September 2014)
  • Ultra Fast 200 – up to 200 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload (Available to new customers from 9 September 2014

Also says that the naked UFB plans come with a landline -

Ultra Fast 100/20 Naked

Unlimiteddata

 Includes

  • Home line with local calls
  • Free calls to your 5 favourite NZ mobiles or landlines
  • Extra $10 off for On Account mobile customers
  • Free use of digital recorder with Vodafone TV SKY option

I have been going through the hoops for over a month now with Vodafone and still have not had 1 call back regarding my fibre install. If they now try put me on a capped 20Mbps Upload I am gone. I have made around a dozen calls and a average call time of around a hour. They managed to completely botch up a simple address change which left me without TV for days, have charged me $100 for a Sky tech which they said would cost $50. I am feed up with the out of country call center staff who clearly read from a script. The ADSL Tech support guy had never heard of interleaving and tried to put me through to Sky TV!  Another  time after being on hold for 30mins, I told the lady the issue I was having and before she even asked for my name and details she put me on hold for a further 30mins! The next person who picked up told me I was a new caller (the previous lady had flogged me off!)

Vofafone have one more chance with me.

100/20 is becoming a standard UFB offering, see also the Slingshot thread.

Bit surprised by the 20 upload on the 200 plan though.

Does anyone know what happens to the people currently on 50 upload? Also the people like me who have been trying to sign up a month before this took affect?

Just trying to understand the pricing.  I see Vodafone is charging $65 for it's naked 30/10 plan which Chorus wholesales for $37.50.  But it is charging $75 for it's 100/20 plan which I understand wholesales for $40.  So a $2.50 increase in costs translates to an extra $10 in a plan?  I may have got my figures wrong so happy to be corrected.

$2.5 is only the increase in chorus wholesale pricing. you can pull ALOT more data on a 100Mb connection than you can on a 30Mb one

And now the top cable plan is worse than UFB - the 130/10 plan has been downgraded to 100/10 (albeit now cheaper), but is the same price as the new 100/20 UFB plan. At least before there was 30Mbps extra download to make up for the slower upload (in terms of overall cost/benefit). What gives? Vodafone should be able to at least match the value of their own UFB offerings, if not do better.

That is what I just noticed last night - I thought it might have been a website error but it appears they have scrapped the 130Mbps. Are they harmonising the pricing of their UFB and Cable so there is no price difference going forward?

Edit: Further down the page on the Naked Broadband information it says the following:

Yeah I think they just forgot to change that bit. The new Offer Summary (curiously you have to tick the "Upgrade your speed" checkbox first otherwise you'll get the old offer summary) shows the speed as 100Mbps. Seems there's some ironing out of the site still to do. But it seems clear that the plan change is as intended.

Scotty1986: *snip*

If you have a pending installation of fibre, you'll be connected with the plan you signed up for originally, not the new ones. Sorry to hear you haven't had the best experience with the contact centre, I'm happy to take a look at your account to see what's up - please send me a private message with your account number, or name/address if you don't have one yet. :)

Re: Home phone on naked page - good catch. Have asked the web team to update that one, thanks for the heads up.

Everyone who is already on fibre 150/50 or 200/50 / cable 130/10 plans is welcome to stay on them if they want to keep the speeds - the plan will only have to change if you move house. If you have pending install orders for services and you signed up before these new plans were launched last week, then you will have the plan you signed up for installed.

Better is coming. :)

Good catch re: speed, will have that fixed up. Correct, cable and fibre are being aligned.

If fibre and cable are being aligned does that mean we can expect to see higher upload speeds on cable? And the 50Mbps plan downgraded to 30Mbps...?

When is this "better" coming? (Weeks? Months? Years?) I'm guessing not for a while yet given you've just changed the plans...

But both plans come with an  80MB cap so the data might be able to be downloaded faster but there's no more data (it stops at 80 gbs).  So the only difference between the two plans is the speed.  Chorus charges Vodafone $37.50 for 30/10 and $40 for 100/20.  So rather than charging customers $67.50 (to cover to the extra $2.50) or even $70 (a neat 100% mark up), it charges 4x as much.

I don't care, that a decision for Vodafone.  It just seems like a big mark up.

I hope it means that we could be looking at an upgrade to DOCSIS 3.1 could be gigabit speeds in the future :-)

A big mark up assuming that they had no additional costs - but they have these pesky things like employees, infrastructure etc. and that has to come out of that 'big mark up'.

I would love 100/100.

Why do they think no one needs upload speed??

NikT: Good catch re: speed, will have that fixed up. Correct, cable and fibre are being aligned.

I had a feeling this was the case. Question is whether the cable network upgrades will keep pace with new plans with higher UFB speeds (especially upload) from competitors or whether the cable network's max speeds will drag its feet on what vodafone could otherwise offer.

Geektastic:I would love 100/100.

Why do they think no one needs upload speed??

The message i get from this is that they think (fairly correctly at the moment) that most residential users don't care much for high speed upload, and that if you do, then go to a different ISP.

I doubt there is one that would do better. We are fairly rural. If I rewired our house comms I might squeeze a bit more up speed out of the VDSL.

I've been backing up a Mac to off site servers in the USA and it is taking months.
