Geektastic: It does appear that the email is misinformation. I rang the VF online shop and checked and despite VF official communications saying my order "has been dispatched" it in fact has not.

I asked the staff member why VF had lied in their email. She did not seem to have much of an answer...

Wow! Had they realised that people would get so pent up about it then I'm sure they would have changed it.  Remember this is the same system that they use all the time, not just for the iPhone release so I'm not surprised by the message.  Maybe they could have spent time and effort ($$$) to change their delivery system especially for this launch?  No. They were trying to do you a favour by getting things ready early so they could dispatch as soon as they are allowed to, and yet you complain.  Amazing.  Maybe they should have just done it later and you could have waited longer.

Chill out dude.

As always, NZ people seem to misunderstand English.

It's a very specific language with defined meanings.

"Your order has been dispatched and will arrive within 2 days" does NOT and never will mean "your order will sit around in a warehouse for a while before we send it out". See the difference there?

If it is not the case that it has been dispatched or that it will arrive within 2 days, that email should have been delayed until such time as it was the case.

ajobbins: In Australia, Vodafone shipped them the afternoon before launch so they were delivered on launch day. My partner got hers in the afternoon last Friday (when they launched in AU)

That makes sense - especially with a launch day of a Friday which with NZ couriers means that most people's orders will sit in the courier depot going nowhere until Monday anyway! It's possible that some orders local to the originating depot may arrive the same day but I doubt any others would.

I bet the team at Vodafone have been bending themselves over backwards to get these out on time.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!

It is an automated system used to keep customer informed of the status of their order, yes it is a day out in this case as they have so many phones to send out this afternoon that they have been pre-packed and pre-labelled.

I know this as I have worked with courier post integrating a similar system.

You need to calm down before you give yourself a heart attack.

Or don't calm down and get a lawyer and sue them.

At least you know you WILL be getting a phone pretty close to release date, if not ON release date, Spark customer still don't know if they are or not.

However many customers - most, presumably - won't come here and find out about it.

AFAICT there is not even a note on the VF website advising any curious customer going there of the fact that the email they have is incorrect. That surely would be neither difficult nor expensive to do.

I can read thanks.  You obviously didn't bother to read my post or you would know that to be true.  They didn't bother to change the delivery system but were trying doing you a favour by packaging and labelling early.  So maybe the email was incorrect but you will get your goods earlier than if they hadn't packaged them earlier - surely this is a good thing.

To paraphrase your rude comment, as always, non NZ people seem to misunderstand someone trying to do them a favour.  A effort that should be appreciated, not complained about because the automatically generated email has slightly incorrect info in it.
