I'm less than 350m from the Cabinet. Is that far? Does it matter? I am using the Vodafone supplied modem. The installer seemed very professional and was a bit of a perfectionist. Im getting a ping of 65 on BF4 on PS4. I was getting a lot less on VDSL and was only getting 18 down 9 up on that. Surely they must be something going on? If you need more info just ask.

PS. Vodafone were meant to call me back yesterday but did not. Typical.

You actually don't have a fault / issue but you could do some pathping / trace routes to the gaming servers and post them

Without knowing a) what type of modem you have and whether it has Gigabit WAN and LAN ports or just 10/100 and b) what type of PC you have and whether it has Gigabit of 10/100 ports and c) whether you're on a new Accelerate (right performing) plan with overdimensioned layer 2 speed and d) whether Vodafone's BNG / traffic policer is shaped at 100Mbps or accommodating these higher layer 2 speeds it's not possible to really comment any further.

From a purely technical point of view, your connection is near perfect for a 100Mbps connection. If your expectations are that you will get 100Mbps 24/7 on a test, then that's a very different issue entirely.

I'm using the Vodafone supplied HG569 has 4x Gigabit Ethernet LAN Ports. I think my laptop has only a 100 Mbps lan port. I don't know the answers to the rest of your questions, I thought since I am paying a premium to get higher speeds that I would be getting those speeds if my line allows it, which the Chorus tech and Vodafone tech said should. Like I said, I was getting a better ping on VDSL and ADSL in the past over copper with my download and upload a lot slower than what I am getting now. Pretty much all the speed test's I see from other users show higher than what they pay for and a very low ping. If they are on some sort of layered plan or whatever is going on, then what determines that? Most users on the 30/10 plan are getting a lower ping than me.

No call back from Vodafone again today. Again, not surprised.

hio77: 89/20 sounds much like 100/20 instead of 200/20..

ping to where from where? are you connected to your closest POP? if so is this in your city?

fair few questions are arising, which make it hard to make a definite comment..

Good to see your testing other Ethernet, thats stage one ticked off!

check your Ethernet card is running at gbit and not 100mbit?

Ping on speedtest.net to pretty much all the NZ servers from Wellington.

I'm not sure what POP I'm connected to, is there a way to tell?

HG659 4x Gigabit Ethernet LAN Ports

I think my laptop is only 100Mbps, if that were slowing me done would I not reach closer to 100?

I happy with the download and upload, but ping is what is most important for me and seeing as I had it lower on DSL I thought something is not right.

Ok so pings. your getting 3~ ms to your first hop. thats what i would expect. Slightly lower than adsl/vdsl.

Maybe your laptop cant handle running flash at such high speeds? often i find especially on linux, minimizing it while its doing a test gets closer to linespeed as cpu has less strain.

Ild check your nic to see what it is negotiating at, see if you cant borrow/beg/upgrade for a device with gbit to test.

Can you explain what this "Accelerate (right performing) plan with overdimensioned layer 2 speed" is? Is it anything like VDSL and DLM?

you have UFB.

VDSL is a copper product. DLM is line management system for VDSL (and ADSL should chorus start using it.)

what they mean, is it will be previsioned as say, 120mbit so that with the PPP traffic it comes out to 100mbit (not exact numbers here, but im sure you get the point.)

Last i checked, Vodafone are IPoE rather than PPoE so there is less overhead there than most.

As explained above, 100Mbps Ethernet can't do 100Mbps. This is a layer 2 speed, not layer 3. With a 100Mbps Ethernet connection it's impossible to get more than ~93Mbps with minor variations on this.

Your pings don't show up any issues at all. If you believe there is an issue you really need to shows traceroutes to something you believe is actually a problem.

Right Performing / Accelerate are newer plans that offer overdimensioning of the layer 2 speed to accommodate for layer 3 and PPP overheads, at 100Mbps this will be dimensioned at roughly 109Mbps (from memory) to allow for this.

At the end of the day however as speeds get faster you should not ever expect to get your EIR speed 24/7 on every single test performed, this is even more significant as we move to contention on the UFB network.
