I see people often report this but I'm yet to have a failure with a genuine apple cable. You guys are inserting/removing by the plastic end bit right, not just yanking on the cable?

I've seen people hold their laptops by the LCD screen ... so yes yanking the cable with force is possible ... but don't forget kids and teens are hanging around these days

I have never had a failure either. My two cables are on my computer desk at home for the 5S and iPad Air. I take a 30 pin with a lightning adapter to work in a motorcycle bag every day. nebver an issue. My 16yo daughter does though, clearly due to her treeatment of them. With any cable of this type I never pull on the cable, always the connector. And avoid kinks.  Maybe I'm just lucky

but just by using it while being charged will kink the cable and cause an internal fracture of wiring (the super short cable will accentuate this phenomenon)

Looking at the cable loosely rolled up with my headphones, the 30 pin cable is loosely rolled up and the almost 1cm piece at the start of each connector is quite firm, good protection. The lightning adapter is a much thicker cable and the protector at each end is much former. They seem pretty fine to me. I look after them I gues sbut they are carried in and out of the bag every day with the headphones. My only duty of care, so to speak is ensuring the cable end do not kink or bend. So as to avoid cable breaks

leo0787sx: Unless someone from Vodafone confirms I'll give the CGA a call and see what they say, I don't fancy spending another $30 on a lightening cable.

So you are going to call an "act" are you?

Have you even called Vodafone or are you in the belief that your query should be taken from this site only?

Are you sure the cable in question is the one from Vodafone or is it the yoobee one?

Have you taken all due care to not cause the damage yourself?

I personally have never had a faulty genuine lightning cable, nor have I ever had a non-genuine one work properly.

O....K, lol. Well Consumer Affairs then if we are getting picky.....

I am going to pop into Vodafone at the weekend but thought I would ask here plus it might helps others.......

The Yoobee one is in my car so yes I'm sure.

There is no damage and I haven't done anything to it, it just doesn't work properly.

You're lucky, I've got 2 faulty at the moment.

In currently using 32 iPads in a classroom over a three year period (12 of them 4's with thunderbolt cables) and 3 iPhones (over the last 5 years) and 2 older iPods, I have had exactly 1 cable failure, and that was a 2m 3rd party cable I got for $2.50 at a random computer store sale....

Apple cables are actually very well constructed IMHO!

Legally they have to give you a new cable as it's not fit for use. Tell them to replace it as you will be covered under the CGA.

If you do buy a new one, make sure its genuine not a cheap/fake one. There are also other brands like belkin who make what I believe are apple approved ones

Fake ones ive had either charge slower or break even easier

IANAL but I don't think that's correct. The CGA may or may not even apply depending on if the phone was bought for business or personal use and if the seller contracted out of it (if business).

We also don't know why it failed. CGA is not insurance for misuse.

Well you never guess what, it got stolen out of my car at the weekend, left it in there to take to Vodafone, it was the only thing they took and it doesn't work, lol. My insurance doesn't cover such cheap items so had to buy one anyway :-(

My iPhone 5 cable 'stopped working', but then after buying a new cable I found out that that didn't work either and the actual problem was a lot of fluff and dust in the port. I got that out using tweezers and now both cables work fine.

Good point, that can happen with microusb as well.  Personally i think ports need to be done away with entirely, there is just no need for them any more.
