coffeebaron: Note to Vodafone; next time you do a promotion, stick to your guns and end the promotion when it's time. Don't be nice to your customers by extending it, as they will still complain in the end.
that's not the point and i'd be posting this same thread four years ago regardless.

Actually I was pretty annoyed with Vodafone when I got the letter but have since calmed down.

The plan is not goneburger, Vodafone have simply increased the price. You can still have the 3 GB data but at $50 per month (along with the calling). This is still the best value in the market for a high data plan.

That said I am going to look at our plan options. This does push our budget up a fair bit (additional $20 per month for two plans) so will probably flick across to 2degrees with carry over data as I have months of high data use and other months of low data use.

Cheers, Matt.

Nope. It is a very old retired plan.

Demeter:
The people who make plans that suit the majority of users actually check usage patterns really very carefully and then design stuff to suit.

But they are using constrained data.

Hey look people don't use all the data in our current plans no need to increase them.

But that's because people are constrained by their current plans.
You don't want to go over and probably aim to have a buffer left at the so you don't get charged extra.

Offer 2 months of unlimited data to all users on ALL PLANS remove the first 2 weeks from the data set (because that will be people going wild with no limits) then see how people use mobile data without the constraints of a plan. and then build your plans around this.

Look to the US for data plans
http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/individual.html

USD $80 ($100 NZ) gives you unlimited everything. US$70 gives you 5GB

or their family plans for even better value

Have you ever used T-Mobile? It is the world's worst mobile network. I'm sure Vodafone will happily give you those sorts of prices if you're willing to have your data restricted to 128kbps.

Please don't compare any US networks to quality networks we have in NZ because they're years behind. They get excited getting 10Mbps on their LTE networks!

Remember US pricing also excludes sales tax which needs to be added - when you do factor this in you see NZ pricing really isn't that much different, and certainly at the low to mid market points we now have exceptionally competitive pricing.

I was in Italy recently shooting an event and there were 5-6 US based photographers there as well in my group - we were comparing Mobile plans and while they were a bit surprised we had no unlimited data mobile plans in New Zealand, they genuinely wouldn't believe that our LTE networks supported real world 100Mbps throughput. I ended up having to get someone at home to run a speedtest and send me a screenshot.

As Sbiddle says, they know LTE as a technology can support 100Mbps+, but they simply don't get anything like it - most of the time in cities they were saying that 4-6Mbps is about as good as it gets in the real world.

Cheers - N

(ps. I have nothing to do with Spark's mobile offerings)

(pps... OH! Except I have access to the reporting from our Speedtest.net servers and WOW, even the average 4G results across all 3 of our servers for Spark customers is about an order of magnitude better than I was told to expect in the US)

Yes. I found their coverage in the US quite good. I only used it while I was roaming admittedly, and didn't make any voice calls. But their data was fine and texts were sent/received rather quickly. AT&T is good too.
