Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Vodafone initially said that extra data will have a 6mo expiry, that was 4 years ago.

Now, it is expiring - you've got some extra time out of it and now it is time to move on. It was never permanent.

Where data is concerned, aside from gaining 4G in a new plan, four years on we have got plans at half the monthly data.

4G isn't worth it for me at all as I get 20mbit/s already which is plenty. I'll either move to the $39 plan and get a free phone to pass on or sell on 24 month contract or look at 2degrees as I seldom use the full data plan and roll-over data would suit me perfect ... But then I'm not sure what their coverage is like.

So they sent you a letter saying the grandfathered plan will be retired for good?

joker97: So they sent you a letter saying the grandfathered plan will be retired for good?

In very simplistic terms the the letter basically says 'We have {insert plan name here} you can go on which gives you better value or you can stay on the plan you have, but we're putting up the price slightly. You choose.'

Except it doesn't give you better value...

If the plan was 4 years old, you would think there would be better value plans now. But are there?

The people who make plans that suit the majority of users actually check usage patterns really very carefully and then design stuff to suit. The plans suggested to customers as replacements closely resemble their actual usage. You would be absolutely amazed, I promise you would, at how many people spend a ridiculous amount of money out of bundle on minutes etc just so they can stay on the 3Gb plan. The new plans are absolutely better value, but there are always outliers, like the ones that post online about how this change is for the worse.

Note to Vodafone; next time you do a promotion, stick to your guns and end the promotion when it's time. Don't be nice to your customers by extending it, as they will still complain in the end.

Major props to vodafone for keeping this plan going for as long as they did. Dont listen to the coffee baron, do the right thing again. and again.
I happily moved off it years ago, no regrets, but its a shame that after 4 years there is no similar plan. I thought we'd all be on 3gigs by now.

In case it wasn't clear enough, the plan isn't gone, its had its price increased.
