Distorter: Had Snap previously, not one disconnect over a year.

Been on 130 cable with Vodafone, have had multiple disconnects, latency issues and low speeds and this is only within 2 months -_-.

Wouldn't recommend Vodafone if your in Wellington, they have too many issues.

Only reason I posted this is because my connection is down currently and I'm using mobile data, have to do this all too often.

Are the disconnects happening over WiFi or LAN cable plugged into modem?

If over LAN then get a job logged with the Cable support team as these issues can be resolved

Yeah, Ethernet. I just can't face constantly stipulating that, it's almost like a geekzone meme now.

Generally it is an issue within Wellington, as I see others on Geekzone or Facebook report about it. No need to log because 9/10 times it is on the outages page.

Connection is back up now after about 3 hours.

I haven't had an outage on cable in well over a year so it's not going to be a greater region thing, it's either something specific to your node, or your property such as poor signal. If you don't log faults, they're not going to get fixed, particularly if it's signal related or due to possible network faults such as a faulty amp for example.

gbwelly: It's not as good as it was, I get about 40-50Mb/s most of the time, that might just be traffic shaping though. Can't complain really, we are a small household so hard to saturate it up to 130Mb/s with day to day use.

International bandwidth is pretty good though.

Do streets or suburbs have finite backhaul which can cause issues? I can speedtest to Vodafone from 40Mb/s up to 115Mb/s. Torrents seem to top out at 3.8MB/s the majority of the time now.

Don't know if it's the high winds, but this is tonight's speed to Vodafone speedtest server over Ethernet. Nothing on the network status page for my area.

DOCSIS is a shared resource, much like GPIN is for UFB. It's not a dedicated connection like xDSL based technology.

The Wellington area used to have somewhere around 100 nodes a few years ago where a node would cover somewhere in the vicinity of a few hundred houses, that number would be a lot higher now as nodes have been broken down further to relieve congestion.

The reality of DOCSIS being shared is that contention is important, it's the very reason the US has moved away from unlimited towards caps in the past few years and 65% (or whatever the latest figure is) of US internet connections are now capped plans, it's because running unlimited over DOCSIS imposes all sorts of problems where a small number of people can (and do) ruin it for the rest of people.

Kind of off topic but is anyone else's cable down? Got home from work to find there's no internet access which is annoying as I just got the new COD :(

Cancel that, billing problem that was mostly my fault. Since I resigned for 24 months in June for newer pricing and free TV for 6months they have not managed to bill me correctly :(
