KiwiNZ:
dbs: chevrolux, the way HFC is going lately. You might want to scratch it off your want list.

I am on HFC 100/10, there is nothing wrong with it. I am consistently at the maximum possible for my contracted plan with only the odd occasion it drops down.

but this thread isnt about speed, which goes to show you didnt bother to read it

its about latency and how traffic has recently been routed which has added to that latency.

im guessing you dont game either.

If there was nothing wrong with it then this thread wouldn't exist, therefore you wouldn't be here to say that there is nothing wrong with it. I think you've created a paradox! surprised

Possibly nothing wrong with it for most of the users if their content is served from local cache or CDN or simply don't notice the increased latency for some sites. I suspect the percentage of users that have this delay sensitive requirement are a minority and the incentive for VF to improve is not very compeling.

Not happy.

180 ms to AU servers on Battlefield.

Was one of the reasons our flat switched to HFC was the lower latency than VDSL (along with higher throughput).

Please fix this Vodafone asap, because this is truly terrible routing.

It seems that Vodafone has inherited Telstra's previous position on peering - use your market size to bully content providers into paying you to access your customers.....

johnr: I will speak to the IP guys this week and see what they have to say, Can't say if anything will come of it

John

Thanks John. If they do reply, can you give us an update here? I'd like to see how much of it agrees with what the last guy told me.

Sorry to say but I am sure it's not broken but still going to ask the guys why routing is done this way

I didn't realise I had to gain prior consent for posts. I will remember to pm a draft to you in future.

Poor routing resulting in high latency is one of the two key reasons I left Vodafone - the other was customer service, which was sometimes good sometimes poor, but was poor on average.

Different hosting companies, different data center's different routes.

This is a peering/transit issue (aka politics/money), Vodafone's cable network still uses Telstra Global for overseas transit/upstream.

Not meaning to disrespect you, your post has got nothing to do with the OP topic. Sure it works fine for you, but it does not work for OP as he clearly stated - there are 2 other threads within the last week discussing about routing issue.

I usually avoid replying to your reply as they usually have no substance in it (too short to make sense or completely unrelated).

Back on topic - I was a customer of telstraclear HFC when living in Wellington. Despite having 10mb upload speed, I was not able to host warcraft 3 game on aussie server. Our friend who is on ADSL2+ with upload speed of less than 1Mb on SNAP can host the game better for all of us (ten of us - from perth to dunedin). This is again because of the peering/routing issue, and this was confirmed by telstraclear support at the time. It looks like not much has changed even after vodafone bought them...

were you on HFC network or xdsl?

I was originally responding to this post "the way HFC is going lately. You might want to scratch it off your want list."  not the OP.

The generalisation regarding HFC being not good is not everyones experience.
