well your modem is only connected at 2mbit/.9mbit so your speeds you are getting look fine for that connected speed

jesterz: Hi all,

Is anyone experiencing really slow speeds at the moment?

Were stuck around 0.7-1.0 Mbps ... often dropping down to 0.3. Speeds improved last night by resetting the modem, but it's back to a crawl?

For what it's worth, Spark are also being slow this evening. Especially DNS responses. Some pages never load at all.....

Spyware: Looks like nearer 3 km from exchange and sick at that.

Titahi Bay is such a small suburb it only has the exchange and a single cabinet. VDSL2 coverage extends to roughly 50% of the suburb looking at maps, and the entire suburb falls into a 10Mbps + zone as the maximum distance from either looks to be around 2km unless there is really funky cable routing going on.

If I was a betting person I'd certainly pick poor internal wiring as the very likely cause of slow speeds as there is no reason why sync shouldn't be 10Mbps+. Without knowing an exact address however, it's not possible to know this conclusively.

OP really needs to have their wiring looked at and a master filter installed for a start.

The fact speeds can "improve" by restarting the modem also adds to the evidence that issues are likely to be localised to within the home rather than Chorus or Vodafone networks.

Thanks for your replies everyone. The strange thing is that we've been in this house for 10 years and speeds and been fine, we've had no work done recently that affects wiring.

The problem has become more pronounced since we've been on the unlimited package rather than capped.

Yep, if there's an internal wiring issue (as sbiddle states above) doesn't matter if there's one jack or 100, a master filter will still tidy up any internal wiring issues.

A master filter won't make any difference to a single jack, but while the OP has said the house only has a single jack that's something that really is incredibly rare in a house - so rare that I've never come across a house that only has a single jack. Even if it does have a single jack there is no way of knowing if that's fed from the EPT, whether there are wires leading elsewhere, an alarm that's hooked up, or whether the jack is corroded (which is really common and will lead to high attenuation).

Without knowing the exact location of the OP it's hard to know what sync speeds should be, but all of Titahi Bay should be 10Mbps +, the fact it's not this high and attenuation is high shows there is a wiring fault somewhere. Yes it could be in the Chorus network, but the real world reality is that it's more likely that not to be within the premises.

What have your speeds been likely historically?

Moving plans won't impact speeds. Your sync speeds are the problem, and they're not affected by your plan, they're impacted by your location and wiring.

Speeds have normally sat around the 2 - 3 Mbps area, equipment is still the same and we've changed nothing in the house. A bit of a mystery!

2 to 3 Mbps is not what most people consider normal for an adsl2+ connection though.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

As explained above without knowing your address it's impossible to know what your speed should be, but as all of Titahi Bay falls into a 10Mbps+ area and 50% can get VDSL2 it shows your 2-3Mbps is roughly significantly less than it should be.

put it simply you have a wiring fault either in the house wiring (most likely) or in the chorus street wiring (least likely)

if you are not confident (and from your early posts i dout you are) you need to get someone in to look at the wiring in the house
