Cbfd: Annoys me people getting these modems off isps and expecting them to do heaps -how about just pay to get a better one and solve all issues

I guess that's because the descriptions and documentation advertise these features, so people (rightly) expect them to work as such.

I personally prefer point-solutions, my HG659 only serves as a fibre connected router and VOIP gateway. I run a separate NAS for shared storage and printing and another WiFi router as an access point (cheaper than an actual AP device).

I'm not quite sure why ISPs provide these all-in-one boxes, why not send out a device that just delivers the services that the customer subscribes to. I expect it would save quite some customer grief and numerous support calls. Then again, just to argue with myself, if the competition offers a more fully-featured device the other ISPs need to keep up to compete.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

It would be good if the ISP's actually put them thru some testing once they have been hobbled by the major mods to the firmware before giving them to their customers and not taking any responsibility for anything other than basic functionality.

Hassle-free wifi is not an advanced feature. It's an expectation.

It brasses me off that these devies have had the ICMP stuff hidden. Sometimes we need to troubleshoot broadband reliability and not being able to ping REALLY brasses me off. Every other device I have come across (and this is a large number) allows you to enable ICMP ping responses. Again this is not advanced functionality.

Interesting, I didn't realise the wireless issue was so widespread, I actually stopped using wireless on my one and bought a Mikrotik for wireless instead..
Same issues, wireless dropping off, usually requiring a reset of the adaptor or device itself.

I also had issues with port forwards failing to work at all or when they did found the config dropped off after a week or 2.

Does an "italian tune up" work on computers?

Annoys me when people post replies like that who dont know the whole story.

If a product is being offered as being able to do something, then I expect it to be able to.

If they dont want to be supporting the features the unit supplies then they shouldnt offer it basically.

^ I did exactly that. It won't work on my vodafone firmware, on BigPipe. It only gone stealth after flashing with Spark firmware. I suspect it might be due to different version (old) of the firmware.

I'm getting really brassed off.

Voda sent one of these to a commercial client to replace an older Vodafone Station(?) device while troubleshooting significant reliability issues. 3 times in 2 weeks we have had port forwards mysteriously disappear.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I was told they dont give HG659 for business customers - they have some other model....maybe its the Station, not sure.

But yeah, these things are possessed :-p

Unfortunately I have a VFNZ supplied HG659 from when I upgraded to VDSL. I re-purposed the VFNZ supplied HG556a as a WAP for extended WiFi coverage downstairs. The HG556a was OK. The UI for the HG659 seems to have been written by a different factory (or by aliens) as it bares no semblance to the 556 UI and is a steaming pile of dog doodoos. Anyway, I have been having similar issues to those posted here since I got it and am fed up with it. I will be searching for a replacement. Anything but Huawei just on principle.

Also, why is the number of DHCP reservations limited to eight?!?!?!?!?!?!?! FFS!
