Cbfd: Annoys me people getting these modems off isps and expecting them to do heaps -how about just pay to get a better one and solve all issues
I guess that's because the descriptions and documentation advertise these features, so people (rightly) expect them to work as such.
I personally prefer point-solutions, my HG659 only serves as a fibre connected router and VOIP gateway. I run a separate NAS for shared storage and printing and another WiFi router as an access point (cheaper than an actual AP device).
I'm not quite sure why ISPs provide these all-in-one boxes, why not send out a device that just delivers the services that the customer subscribes to. I expect it would save quite some customer grief and numerous support calls. Then again, just to argue with myself, if the competition offers a more fully-featured device the other ISPs need to keep up to compete.
