We were getting off topic in another thread, so started this one...

HuaweiNZ, is it possible for you to talk to VodafoneNZ and resolve the firmware issues many of us have had with the HG659 from Vodafone ?

* Settings not holding (especially after a reboot) - DNS is my biggest issue, always having to change it.
* Port 80 being open to public (and displaying things such as my firmware version, Wifi SSID and how many devices are connected)
* Removal of "hidden" logins to the unit - remote support is something we should be able to turn on/off.
* Poor wifi connectivity - devices connect to the wifi but get no internet traffic.

And others probably have more....

Ive been to Vodafone with these issues and keep getting told Im the only one reporting it...yet their own forums have others with similar issues.
Their solution for me was to send me another unit - exact same issues.

Flashing with the Spark firmware seems to resolve a lot of these issues.

Thanks :)

Out of interest, are any devices you're getting wifi issues with Apple Devices? Macbooks, iPhones or iPads?

No, no Apple devices in the house. WIfi issue was happening to Android, Windows, Windows Phone, pretty much anything wifi. Would come right after a reboot for a day or so then back to the same issue. DHCP settings all fine, just no traffic.

No, wouldnt apply as the device is giving internet connection, wifi is a bonus really ;) ANd for the settings, theyd have the argument that the Vodafone settings work fine, not their fault a 3rd party setting is failing and theyd be right.

Could argue but :
1) dont want to go down that road
2) got a 3rd party wifi unit to solve that issue.

Yeah, same issue here. Fortunately have another WiFi router that can be delegated.
As a vdsl modem though its rock solid.

I've had the issue of WIFI devices no longer getting any traffic. Along with the ODD DNS droppout.

I'm having an issue with a 2nd older pc that is connected by LAN cable. Where it doesnt want to see the Router at 1 GBIT and randomly decides to connect only at 10mbits. Not sure if the network card in the pc (have done the usual tried other cables etc) or an incompatibility with the network card

New network card is the next option.

The CGA covers all functions of a device, so yeah it absolutely would apply. Your argument is a bit like saying "The car drives, so it's fine that the headlights don't work andthe car dealership has an insecure remote control system that anyone could hijack"

Hi xpd,

Apologies for the delay, I was off doing a bit of research on this.

We do work with Vodafone to meet their software requirements for this device. Vodafone is aware there have been some reports of DNS and Wifi issues and we're now working with them to pinpoint what's behind this. A fix should be included in an upcoming routine update. As it's a work in progress I'm not able to give an exact date at this time, but it is certainly being addressed.

Also, thanks very much for the feedback - it absolutely does find its way to the right people.

Cheers
Nick

At least you're much more open and honest than VF, VF's answer has always been "You're the only one reporting a problem"

Is this just for the vodafone variant, or is there likely to be an update for the spark firmware too? Asking because a few users have flashed different firmware, or may be experiencing similar issues on the spark model.

I've had one of these for 6 months and got pissed off at the Wifi issues across multiple devices that resulted in my having to power off the device every week.

I replaced it 3 weeks ago with a Netcomm branded device.  ZERO wireless issues with the new device.

It would be good if the ISP's actually put them thru some testing once they have been hobbled by the major mods to the firmware before giving them to their customers and not taking any responsibility  for anything other than basic functionality.
