Are you able to switch to another provider with fibre? eg. Are you in a UFB zone?

No fibre here until late 2019.
ADSL2 was 10 Mbps down, and VDSL2 (with master filter etc) was no better.
So cable is the only show in town for another 4 years..

I have learned to do most of my surfing and downloading in the morning.  wink

mattbush: Geekzone forums went mad when these unlimited plans first came out and all posters pointed to massive congestion. The Vodafone staff on these forums all denied this would happen.

Care to quote the staffers you're referring to?

A load of work is happening right now to improve capacity right across the HFC network

Scroll back 12 months or so. Unlimited plans were a very lively debate for quite sometime, with VF personnel almost guaranteeing performance would not be impacted. A lot of us were on fixed plans and didnt want out performance affected by unlimited users.

March 2015 Broadband Report

EXTRACTS:

TV Streaming Impacts ISP Performance?

"The market for television and movies on the Internet (Over-the-Top-Technology, or OTT) suddenly took off this year, and March appears to be the month that demand started to impact supply.

"While Most ISPs would have increased capacity to prepare for the extra demand, it would appear the balance of supply and demand we have seen for many months is no longer present.  In March, both Vodafone and Slingshot had severe DSL performance reductions during the peak demand hours of 8pm to 10pm, while Snap and Spark also dropped significantly.

Fibre - Cable - VDSL Comparison

"Chart 6 (below) compares the performance by Time of Day of the higher speed broadband offerings.

"Snap remains the best of our 100Mb/s fibre providers, with Orcon improving this month to be a close second. MyRepublic is well down, averaging just 75Mb/s from our NZ servers.

"Vodafone cable has a more pronounced slowdown in the evening compared to recent months, dipping to just 80Mb/s.

["Vodafone Cable achieves over 100% because the 100Mb/s Cable plan is capable of speeds around 130Mb/s.]

In addition to my usual severe 9pm speed dip (see my previous posts with TrueNet reports), for the first time I now have slow cable this morning.

Here is my 9am Ookla speedtest (wired) to the VF Wellington server on my "100/10Mbps" cable connection:

Do other cable users have this problem today?

His head probably exploded due to cable performance rage.

Really hoping this is resolved soon. Cable performance is downright horrible at peak hours, with even simple 1080p video streaming slowing down a bunch (I often watch stuff at 4K). I've also had some flatmates complain about these frequent, predictable dips to me. Unfortunately it's either cable or sub-12 Mbps ADSL here, so I don't really have much choice either way.

This connection is fantastic when it's performing optimally, although since the turn of the new year, its performance has been anything but consistent.

+1

My Wellington "100/10Mbps" cable connection has been particularly slow over the last 2 days.

In addition to the usual speed dip (typically below 5Mbps) at 8-10pm, my connection is now slow throughout the day as well.

We are reassured in another forum that the "Cable network now had loads of work going on in the backend adding extra capacity" and that "Traffic for what we call the Red (VodafoneNZ) and blue (Telstraclear) will soon be one on the Red side".

Sooner the better wink

Vodafone, please. :(

YouTube is just about unusable today. This thread's been pretty quiet, though, so how's it looking for everyone else? Or is everyone else off of their computer actually doing something productive today, unlike me? :P
