bigreddog:
So how do we (as users) find out what the fastest service available to us at our address is?

https://www.chorus.co.nz/network-upgrade-map

then find an ISP that offers that.

Pay the $300 and leave ASAP. undecided

That's a lot of money.  WxC promise to give you the best speed available, and I wouldn't quibble if that was 100/20, but 30/10 is worse than some people's VDSL.  Write them an email, or even a letter (on paper!), outlining the problem and requesting they resolve it.  Inform them that if they can't resolve this problem, you will cancel your account and as they have broken their "best speed promise" you will not expect to be charged an early termination fee, and will take them to the TDR/disputes tribunal/etc if they do.

People sit up and take notice when something arrives in the mail.

The Chorus map really just indicates whether fibre is available or not, not what speed fibre might be available!

Interestingly enough the map tells me that Fibre is NOT available in the house i have just bought, (was installed by previous owner) so I guess i should be happy with WXC's 30/10 as its better than advertised?

It does indicate what speed is avaliable

Throw your address in and it says above the map:

Network capability

  • Broadband > 20 Mbps (with the right modem and plan)
  • Broadband > 10 Mbps
Network upgrade scheduled

  • UFB fibre up to 200 Mbps between Jul-2018 and Jun-2019

Yes, $300 is a lot of money.
But BEFORE you write your letter, phone other providers to see if they can do better.
You have nothing to lose.
If you can get faster, and if that's what you want, then ditch Enable, cut your losses, and sign up with another provider - preferably one with a no-term contract.

The OP is in Christchurch (Enable networks) so the Chorus map is not applicable.  It's quite clear on the wxc website that 30/10 is the only UFB plan they currently offer:
https://www.wxc.co.nz/residential/support/information/access-types/#ufb
https://www.wxc.co.nz/residential/support/information/wxc-position-on-ufb/

If 30/10 is inadequate for your needs, go ahead and get a better provider but be prepared to pay the $300 to cancel. Snap Internet, for example, offer up to 200/200 plans in Christchurch.

redeye40: Hi all,
Just had Enable install fibre into my house in Chch(after signing on for 24 months)fast efficient service,no problems there, the problem is WXC's blurb says, "fastest speeds available".

I now (I know, I know hindsight is 20/20) read... buried further on their site, I'm limited to 30 down 10 up, surely this is false advertising, 30/10 is NOT the fastest speed available(and is certainly NOT UFB), the opposition is offering  100/20 and even 200/20 for roughly the same price, now I'm stuck with vdsl speeds for 2 years.

Any ideas or do I just pay the early out $300 and ditch it for the opposition.

any advice appreciated

regards

Surely they will allow you to upgrade your speed?

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions.

Just seeing if 30/10 is adequate as suggested at the moment, what with the early exit $300 and all.

After calling tech support, no idea when/if higher speeds will be available, certainly not in the immediate future and funnily enough Maverick hasn't popped up to offer any pearls of wisdom...perhaps he's on holiday...

I would try to get out of it now as soon as possible rather than wait on something that may never happen.

Is tolerating two years of slow internet worth $300?

well, 30/10 is hardly 'slow, but I think it's more the principle of the matter.

Although 100Mbps+ connection for home broadband sounds great, the reality for most people is 30/10 will be plenty for now. I'm sure faster speed band in future will come with WxC.
I guess it also means they get no complaints from people who can't get their 200Mbps on a speedtest over Wi-Fi :)
