Some consolidation in a small market can be good as it strengthens continuity of services and enhance development.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Excepting when Vodafone shows it fails at these.

Vodaclearhugwavesaturndise-xchange!

It'll be fun to be on their ops team, jumping from one legacy system to the next. A few years ago i heard theres still saturn branding on some parts of the core VF Cable network.

That's a matter of opinion, I have had no issue with the VF/TelstraClear merger

This is such sad news that they bought WXC.
I used to be with them during my uni years a few years back and they were excellent to deal with.

It's so sad for the company and it's employees to be bought by Vodafone.

mattwnz: The consolidation of the market is interesting, and probably not that great for consumers longer term.

This stuff goes in cycles.

Now means we have one less place for you to get a job in the market...  oh well, you'll just have to set up shop on your own....  That's how we end up with all these small operators to vacuum up.

The beauty of an unregulated market like we have is that new guys can rise up all the time.  Fortunes are made.

In this case consumers may well win.  WxC is known to have some very good product and people, but clearly their general lack of significant size means that many consumers just don't hear about them.  I doubt that VF have purchased them just to shut it down but rather to gain value from the VoIP skill as we're moving in to a UFB world where more and more VoIP skill is going to be sort after.

I am smack in the middle of a 2 year contract with them for my parents.

Honestly, seeing what has happened with Telstraclear doesn't leave me with much faith with what is about to happen to WXC. I just really hope the support doesn't move overseas and things just continue just how they are...

I'm dreaming.

I recall they did keep the ihug brand iniitally, but 2-3 years later it got merged. There are pros and cons with keeping separate brands, but there is probably more efficiency by merging brands.

Good excuse to move my parents off their Orcon ADSL, and WxC Voip, to Ubergroup fibre and VoIP. :)

Voda would rather spend their money buying up other businesses than fixing the fundamental problems like their crappy call centresyell
