My server is connected directly via network cable to router, same setup I had with Slingshot getting 10MB
Did a test download of Ubuntu http://releases.ubuntu.com/15.04/ubuntu-15.04-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent getting 700Kb. Would be good to know what others get in comparison.
Running Unotelly DNS I have changed router DNS settings. Not sure how this would affect speeds as torrent use ip addresses not hostnames......however I will reset this to eliminate issues
Been using uTorrent since it launched 8-9 years ago and uPnp is configured and works fine.
Speedtest.net is showing 50/20 no throttling on this website I take it. Usually shows 80/20 most of the time.
Have the Vodafone Sky box so guessing this is eating into bandwidth?

@TimA a little confused as you say you have been working with Vodafone but are not aware of any throttling even though it is specified on the website? http://www.vodafone.co.nz/legal/terms-conditions/unlimited-data-terms/ Would be pleased to be corrected on this point.

Also I think torrents are a great way to gauge performance as it probably one of the best ways to saturate your connection. Alternatives are to setup multiple download streams from differing sources albeit cumbersome.

If in your view an ISP isn't providing you with the service you want your best bet would to be to vote with your feet. There are other providers out there which don't shape traffic.

as your on fibre why not connect to your ONT directly from your PC and run the authentication that way? eliminates a few things from the loop.

disconnect Vodafone tv box thing,

there is nothing wrong with that torrent

and lastly try the torrent outside of peak hours and see what speeds you get.

This has not been my experience. I recently installed a new NAS and re-configured DropBox to sync from the NAS. Being on the unlimited plan was great as I used half a terabyte of data over a period of about a week and a half ensuring that DropBox and the NAS are correctly synced. While upload speeds did vary over that time, I did not detect any packet shaping or throttling. Vodafone gets a bad rap a lot of the time, and much of it well deserved, but my experience in recent days has been nothing but positive. Yes, I have been on a node that appears to have been updated some time ago (Ngaio) but overall my experience has been great.

Heres just a bit before half 10, got home a bit late to give it a test with a clear line. (15/1)

At 300 connections, thats excessive, and TCP Acks are reasonably heavy but it was for example sakes. - If i remember ill do one tomorrow when it will peg the line out nicely.

Now honestly, getting just shy of 1MB/s on that im Okay with. its not flooding anything there is leg room for others to still use the connection. But i have seen the shaping far worse.

As stated before, Clearly Identifiable when comparing single stream performance comparisons over different mediums. I dont exactly torrent enough lately to likely catch the Really bad nights - Its not every night in peak you notice massive shaping normally comes in waves.

Obviously as others have stated, moving isps is really your best option. Although contracts can make that less tempting.

I just got 22.5MB/s from that torrent from my SnapDegrees 200/200 connection.

Try another client - Deluge or qBittorrent are very good where uTorrent is rubbish these days.

When I went from Adsl2 to 30/10 fibre my torrents in Utorrent sucked as well.

Until I went into Utorrent and tweaked it, press control-G setup options,

Run the test

Details from mine say

ticked Bandwidth , Wellington NZ
Result upload 10.4mbits, (1.2MB/s) Download 30.1 mbits (3.5MB/s)
your upload speed TEST Result 10.4mbits

Utorrent Bandwidth configuration
Upload limit 1018.8 kB/s Upload slots 25
Connections per torrent (125) Connections Global (800)
Max Active torrents (15) Max Active downloads (15)

I usually max out the connection at 3.7Mb/s when downloading , no issues

I tried your ISO link and got 3MB a second, though it did fluctuate down as low as 2.5MB

Too many variables in torrents like your experiencing to call it a reliable test mate.
I worked there over a year ago now. When i did work there the terms did state they will shape traffic when the network is stressed. That would not be 24/7.

Try it without that.
I can highly recommend port forwarding the router and using static ports on your client.
Test the open port with a checker on a website.

have you tried any of the other suggestions? like disconnecting stuff, or queuing them and downloading over night

Always read the fine print. It's unlikely an ISP will change their clearly stated data shaping policy for one customer. Either accept it as per your sign up terms or move to another provider.

We are not anti-P2P; however if our network is congested, rather than impact all customers, P2P-type traffic will be the first to be de-prioritised (slowed). We will always prioritise the more mainstream traffic types (such as video, web and gaming traffic) over P2P as this will have the greatest benefit for the majority of customers.

P2P is simply where many services are going.

Unfortunately, that lands with deprioritization. Depending on ISPs management, you might find services that support a "legacy" mode, are actually faster.
