Next step (should have been done), port change at exchange and change pair between exchange and house. Alcatel/Thomson Speedtouch routers seem to cope with noisy lines very well.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Ah, you are on the Papatoetoe exchange which is right in the middle of it's ADSL2+ upgrade:

I'm in Pakuranga and joined right at the start of the upgrade process. My line would be stable for a few days and then suddenly drop 5 or 10 times in an hour. All at random times. All the start were fine, but then suddenly the SNR goes down to about 5-7 and shortly after the line is dropped. I've posted a comment about it on this forum, the next moment WxC phone me on my mobile and talked me through it for 45 minutes (they went to the trouble of looking up my account from the Geekzone details). We just could not figure it out. Then after the last day of the commissioning phase all teh disconnections stopped. Now I might get one a week or less. Actually I find I need to reset my modem because the modem's web server slows down, suspect it has a memory leak or something, but my line itself has been good for about 10 months now.

So if all else fails, simply hang in there and see if the problem disappears in February when they finish commissioning your exchange upgrade. My theory is that at the end of the period they go through logs and fine tune the equipment settings, but they need a few weeks of errors before they can see how much tuning needs to be done.

Well, according to the ADSL2+ upgrade report that is exactly when your exchange was scheduled for switching on ADSL2+. If you want to, "ride the horse" and get Telecom to install brand new wiring to your house at their expense before the problem goes away when they finish commissioning your exchange upgrade

Well despite the fact that you are going through a exchange migration I'd still get your ISP to log a 'OFM' ticket. REquest for a analizer to be placed on the line to see if the disconnections are caused by PPP drop outs or if they are DSL drop outs. the analizer will only show the DSL dropouts so if the results of the 24 hour analizer are say X disconnections and you noticed Y disconnections. minus X from Y to find the PPP dropouts :) . If there are no disconnections found by the analizer then you know its a PPP issues, ie modem not working well with the ADSL2+ profile. In the same ticket logged to OFM get them to put you on a ADSL1 profile with higher noise gain.

HSI-FSFS-AM or something like that. I think the standard profile is HSI-FSFS-NP for FS/FS connections on a ADSL2+ exchange.

If you get you ISP to call faults then they can tweak the line even further. Depending on what hardware you are connected to, ie, Alcatel 7302, 7300, Fastmux 2000 conklin, Nokia DSLAM, they have other special profiles they can put on there to try fix things.

I ask them to do this all the time for my customers , and its not hard for your ISP to do this! it should be their standard procedure!

PS, try using a better modem... a d-link and belkin are not exactly the best ones out ;) , Perhaps shop around for a old nokia M1122 (ADSL1 only though) but you are not seeing the benifits from ADSL2+ so it doesnt matter). I picked up a old Cisco 827 for $65 on trademe, cant get much more stable than that.

Oh, it was past my bed time. I meant get new wires installed but that is not what I was supposed to say because I misread what Spyware was saying. The bottom line of what I was trying to say is that one department in Telecom is currently aware of your problem so get them to do as much as you can to get the best possible connection to the exchange before the problem goes away. If the problem goes away in a few weeks, then you already have had everything else possible checked out and you know everything on Telecom's side is virtually perfect. Also, if the problem goes away then you will find it hard to justify getting them to look at your line unless there is a problem.
