The coax part of the network isn't the reason for our current problems. That can transport whatever carriers are put on it. If they are putting in a parallel and fat system between the core network and the nodes - then it's a separate system in the areas where the current issues reside. So it depends on the definition of "upgrade". If it's "add a couple more links to the existing groups" then you're right. If it's "run in a separate set of really fat, modern pipes" then I'm right. Time will tell! :-)

if its due to go live mid this year i wouldnt think they would be installing new "pipes" as you put it

It was early November when they announced the DOCSIS 3.1 upgrade. That's five months ago, and I'm sure that there will have been plenty of feasability studies and "how the heck can we do it" meetings before that announcement. Surely 8 or 9 months is enough time?

The rollout is on Vodafone time.

Almost as attributable to Valve time sadly.

The peering for Cloudflare in auckland took ages too, Many "coming this week"s were put out, then certain spots events were "delaying it" because thats totally relevant at all.

I wouldnt wait around on DOCSIS 3.1.

When Vodafone pull it out, Lets rejoice! in the hope their core is a bit more stronger...

Otherwise, We will have another thread of my 1gbit/1mbit (surely they have to keep upstream real low right?) isnt preforming at peak! much like the way over kicked horse we already have.

Encase its read as it, I dont hate vodafone, but their timings announced are often way off sadly, Or related around Press releases to make things look good..

You seriously have to wonder how much longer Russell Stanners has got as CEO.
Does he know about all these problems (including the appalling customer "service" provided by their outsourced call centre)? Does he even care?

Telstra Clear sucked the whole time I worked there, but at least when Rosemary Howard was running the show she would be all over problems like this. What does he do? Seriously, what does he do in his role at that company? Hell, even Simon Moutter is out and about from time to time, interacting with the public.

"Not too surprisingly, a fair number of survey respondents once again advised service-challenged cable operators not to bother with any new technology options this year.
Instead, nearly 11% urged operators to forget about new technologies and just focus on delivering better cable service."

I expect the team have focused on finishing the deployment of the high capacity CMTS and fixing the probs with island bay and wainui etc, and the downstream issues that then creates. Once it's done, it's done, and taken far too long to finish.

Then the team can start thinking about how to turn on 3.1, assuming it's still going ahead. It was committed before the Sky deal, and I wouldnt be surprised if group says 'youre overspending and underdelivering, change what youre doing for this FY'
