i agree, there is a number of ongoing issues with VF cable service, lets see if they can do something, highly doubtful - yes

Assuming enough backhual is in-place, the upgrade to DOCSIS 3.1 could help hide vodafones current issues with their cable network at Existing speeds.

yup argreed there is fibre 15 meters from my house and i dont get it till 2018, bad way to rollout the UFB, so docsis 3.1 will be fine for me, current cable is barely keeping up with my needs

That seems like an utter waste rolling out the current spree of new modems then! surely someone at Vodafone would have looked at it with half a brain and gone, we are rolling out new modems here. Lets make it future compatible. 

Last i heard, for techy folk the TC7210D was a step backwards in functionality.. Checking spec sheet it indeed only does up to 3.0

Why is that a bad way? They can't do everywhere at once.

Its known that cable is quite susceptible to congestion, as as nature of the technology.

I assume that it opens up more spectrum for use and using that spectrum more efficiently so users will benefit even if they don't go for the fastest speed.

I'm kinda thinking that 3.1 is like Transmission Gully. New infrastructure, built properly. And that will have the extra effect that it takes some of the load off the existing infrastructure, thus allowing THAT to work better too.

I don't see that the mess that the current cable system is in should make us assume that 3.1 will be a mess too.

but if they cant maintain what infrastructure they have what makes you think they will be able to maintain new infrastructure and not have the same issues in the future?

The same reason I believe that the NZTA will be able to properly maintain a new Transmission Gully, compared to the shambles of the existing SH1.

Have you ever tried to keep an old car going, and compared that effort to keeping a new car going?

The two things are not really comparable. They're not laying 100% brand new network, they're (supposedly) upgrading what they already have. There is a big difference.
