I just had a chat with a guy from Apple, he said it's looks like it's been setup on Apples end but Vodafone just have to do their bit

Vodafone wont do it unless they can find a way to charge for it.

Please provide evidence to back up this comment?

You're forgetting Vodafone used to charge $10 to access the 4G network (with no extra data added to your allowance), and it was for on account/contract customers only. Then when Spark launched 4G they let prepay customers access 4G too and dropped the fee.

I'd not be surprised at all if they done the same this time around. I'm just hoping if they launch it then Spark or 2Degrees will follow and bring in some competition.

Licencing costs for VMM costs big $$$ and considering VMM is only of benefit to Apple users and voicemail usage is now a mere fraction of what it used to be I wouldn't see it as something competitors would rush out to copy.

No, Voicemail is becoming unpopular, because it is boring, and slow and millenials hate it... (cue the generation bashing) and its basically a relic from the land line age, (cue more things millenials hate)

With a smartphone, you know who called... so they will either call again, message you, or you can call them back...

Skinny has it free on their Skinny Direct $30 and $50 plans, and the $46 combo.

2degrees deducts 1 minute from your combo

I haven't paid to clear a voicemail on Vodafone in probably 15 years. I just dial my number and it's free.

I also probably haven't left a voicemail for probably 2-3 years and have probably received 2 so far this year. Voice is a product declining rapidly, and voicemail even more so.

It's only good revenue for telcos as it means off net calls to another network or from a landline that go to voicemail generate inbound interconnect revenue.

This is ironically how BellSouth scammed Telecom in the early 1990's when they launched. Telecom Mobile used to charge per minute for voicemail deposits and voicemail retrieval along with (at one point) a monthly fee for voicemail. BellSouth launched and gave everybody voicemail for free, didn't charge for VM deposits and charged 20c per message to clear them. The result was 100% of calls from Telecom to BellSouth were connected either by somebody answering or by the voicemail platform. This became a great source of instant revenue for them!
