So after reading about iOS10s voicemail transcription service, it becomes apparent that the feature only works on networks that support visual voicemail (Initially I'd thought that Siri would act as your voice mailbox and answer calls for you).

Doing a bit more Googling I found this article.

Vodafone spokeswoman Emma Carter said it would launch visual voicemail on iPhones early next year and would have an app available for Android smartphones "a little later". However, text transcripts were not a feature it was looking to provide, she said.

But 2degrees appears as though it may be first across the finishing line. Spokeswoman Charlene White said it had been working on visual voicemail for a while and expected to offer it "within the next couple of months".

The article is dated 07/09/2014, coming up close to two years ago. Has any update been made on the above at all? It seems to have been largely forgotten about. The closest I can recall is the thing Spark does where they send a text with a number you call that takes you direct to that voicemail, but this is hardly visual voicemail tbh.

Have you tried "Touch Voicemail" for iOS? I gave up on NZ Telcos getting this feature pushed out a long time ago. Touch Voicemail is superb. I believe iOS only but Android on the way.

Vodafone have installed a new voicemail platform since then so I guess anything could happen.

The mere fact nobody cares about VM these days and a growing number of people are simply disabling it probably means it's an incredibly low priority for any mobile network. Licencing for things like visual voicemail costs $$$ and I think it'd be safe to say very few Apple fanboys would want to actually pay more for the service.

When did the new voicemail platform go in?

I gave up on waiting for a NZ telco to bother with investing in this superb feature.  Luckily Touch Voicemail came into my life about 9 months ago and I've been loving it since.

I've, surprisingly, not heard about Touch Voicemail until you and PoHq mentioned it. Looks great so have signed up for a year to see how it goes. Thanks!

Hmmmm. Interesting little spot tonight!

While researching theiPhone 6s battery recall thing issued by Apple recently, I was clicking through links to see what support options I had available in NZ.
Clicking the link for carriers and support in NZ, took me to this page: https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT203982 . Going to the NZ section listed the following features under Vodafone NZ:

  • FaceTime over Cellular
  • LTE
  • Personal Hotspot
  • Visual Voicemail

All other carriers had the same info, except Vodafone was the only one to list Visual Voicemail. Screenshot below.

Surely this means something is at least in the pipelines? :D

I believe Vodafone's migration to a brand new voicemail platform that began earlier in the year is now complete. You'd have to ask them whether they have plans to enable the features it can support.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

What is correct? You're getting visual voicemail? Or can't talk about it

That really made me laugh. :)

From the Apple webpage I expect Apple or Vodafone will have an announcement in due course, no doubt Mauricio will be first to know when he's emailed a press release. As of 1 June the answer from Vodafone was "visual voicemail is not currently available on the Vodafone NZ network". http://help.vodafone.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/6521/

Vodafone wont do it unless they can find a way to charge for it.
