Yes,They should also have a list of IP addresses that have registered against your account on their server, so should be able to look at that at any time.

SEP 27 : DAY 19 : I called VF again yesterday. They said they would get back to me. They didnt.

 

I called again this morning. Now they tell me they have never seen this issue before. Lies?

 

I miss Dylan and John.

Sep 29 : Day (I'm losing count) 21?

 

Same old, same old.

 

I feel a bit sorry for my poor old parents (or anyone else for that matter) who have to call me on my cellphone because they cant get through on the landline. 

 

This issue isnt costing me $$ that I know of (yet), but anyone who wants to ring me is having to pay extra.

I'm not sure who is doing what, but please let me know if there is anything else I need to do.

Sounds like there are multiple registrations of your phone number - 1 from your modem and 1 from somewhere else that is "Stealing" your calls.


i.e. - VoIP uses SIP, your modem registers to their server "Hey, I'm 0xyyyyyyy and I am at IP x.x.x.x for the next 5 mins" Server says "Great, I will send calls to you at x.x.x.x"


 Then 2 mins later another device registers "Hey, I'm I'm 0xyyyyyyy and I am at IP y.y.y.y for the next 5 mins" Server says "Great, I will stop sending calls to x.x.x.x and start sending them to y.y.y.y"


*Not actually how that works, but you get the idea.


This cycle then repeats, so your calls are sent to x.x.x.x for 2 mins, then y.y.y.y for 3 then back to x.x.x.x for 2 etc.


Wow! Can I quote you when I run my VoIP introductory course at Whitireia next year? :-)

Seriously, we joined WorldxChange about ten years ago, and getting the handsets registered has been the only significant issue. Complicated because we have two different ATAs on one Vodafone Cable connection. (I wonder if the new Technicolor modems would manage that - I'll take extreme measures to defend my Cisco modem!)
I am in denial about the Vodafone purchase of WxC. Has worked so far - only once in ten years can I remember a significant fault. That was when they had a fire in their Albany data centre, and we lost all service for about a day.

From our end, the phone does not ring and no entry appears in the HG659 call log.



Do you get your phone service from "Vodafone Next Generation Services Ltd"? - aka WxC since the Vodafone purchase that I deny has happened.
WxC has a service called "Call Forwarding Not Reachable" which forwards calls to another number (eg, your cellphone) if no ATA is registered at the time. If cisconz's scenario is correct (very likely), then this won't help. Still won't do any harm to set it.

All I know is that my homephone is with VF. 

 

I will look into seeing if I can re-direct unanswered calls to my mobile, that would save my callers some money but cost me I imagine.

 

Still better than my parents pensions going into their phone providers pocket.

 

So far VF dont think @cisconz is on the right track.

I just phoned "Vodafone Next Generation Services Ltd" to ask about a very minor issue (online call records not working correctly). I asked, and the CSR said yes, you will be on the same service as we have.

There is another option that your parents might like - you can set up a voicemail option where the caller can press 1 during the message, and the call will be transferred to a specified number. Both this, and "Call Forwarding Not Reachable", are free to configure, but if you transfer the calls to a cellphone, you will get charged the normal cell rate - 27c+GST per minute in our case.

I access this stuff at https://www.xport.co.nz There is a resgistration option there, which might (if it works) be faster than phoning Vodafone to ask about getting set up. No harm in trying.

Far and away the biggest benefit we get from VoIP is the included service to forward voicemail messages to an email address. For us it works much better than having to use a handset to listen to messages.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

@SteveC Unfortunately we dont use VF answer service, our home handset has an inbuilt answering machine which we use.

 

One of the benefits for us for moving to VoIP was finally being able to get Caller ID, but its a bit pointless so far.

It doesnt seem like you are getting much attention on your problem - patience doesnt seem to be helping you much.

 

Have you considered just porting your phone number to 2talk perhaps and telling vodafone to get stuffed?

 

What is the phone part of your monthly bill?

 

You would need to buy a voip capable phone - or an ATA to run your analog phone.

 

About $11.50 per month for 200 included local minutes and 250 national minutes.

 

The 2talk solution has all that call recording/messaging stuff built in at no additional cost. Setup can be a bit of an adventure - but the service is very reliable.

As I said above, our family has been happily using WorldxChange, now "Vodafone Next Generation Services Ltd" for about ten years. When I had registration issues (which is what it sounds like you have), the WxC helpdesk was excellent, lead by @maverick at the time.
Have you heard back from @MikeHales after he asked for a PM a couple of days ago?

Following up from your earlier posts today -
* Our Voicemail is included at no extra charge. Might be worth considering, but then, if your local answerphone works well for you, then never mind.
* Caller ID is nice - even better when the caller is using another VoIP provider who includes the caller's name!
* In our WxC account is the same price as 2Talk. $10+GST per month, but doesn't include any national minutes.

Currently my ONT and router are in different locations and have only got one ethernet patch to link them, so not sure how I would implement a secondary ATA solution.

 

I have heard from VF today, so I can only hope they are beavering (not a rude word!) away on it.

Just realized - I haven't said in this topic that our Internet is on Vodafone Cable (don't have UFB available yet). We just use WxC for voice. IMHO Cable is usually second best product, after fibre. Customer service is another question.
Despite Vodafone now owning both companies for a few years, there has no been suggestion that Vodafone are going to combine our accounts (should be cheaper), or move ex-WcC customers to Vodafone support channels (heaven forbid).

I am Naked Vodafone Fibre with 2talk VOIP. An ATA would simply plug into your router via Ethernet.
