The provisoining rule is under the Voice/ Admin section, this is a small trap, you must click admin to get to the voice provisioning section,

The reason you have to power cycle the device after you put the rule in is that by default you will see the resync period , which you see in Coffeebarons image is that this timer set for 3600 secs (1 hour), so it won't try to pick the configs up for an hour so a power recycle forces it to pick it up almost straight away.

Well, I got up this morning to no phone or internet.

I'm at work now so can't check if it's back, but I left everything running and my email client open all night. Checked my spam folder (I get about 20-30 an hour) and the last one was around 4am.

All system lights are as they should be, including the Internet light on the modem.

I did a power reset on both the modem and router at about 8am. I noticed that the dialtone came back for a very short time, but I could make no calls. Still no internet at this stage.

Then it all went away again and the Internet light on the Modem wouldn't connect at all (even when plugged directly to my PC). I left to work at 8:30 with the DSL light on the modem flashing, and the Internet light never engaging.

Was there an outage at all this morning? The first thing I did at work was check the Xnet site, but there isn't anything in their Network Status bar.

Aaryn015: 2. I noticed that when the PC was plugged directly to the modem, the connection dropped out after leaving it for a while. There was a setting in the modem interface to the effect of 'Connect on demand'. I changed this to "always on".

That would cause issues, should be "always on"

As for it dropping out this morning, check that the above setting is still intact. Also, what are your line stats like? I.E. downstream / upstream speeds, line attenuation, noise margins etc. What is the wiring like at home? Do you have a central splitter, or dedicated line to you router, i.e. it does it go through lots of phone jacks? The quality of your line is important here, and sounds like this could be a factor if it is dropping DSL.

I'll check that setting again when I get home.

I thought the line might be an issue. The one in use ain't the greatest to my amatuer eye.

The only one I am using is weird (we've just moved in so don't blame me for this). But the room (where all this gear is) is upstairs. There is no wall jack up there. So someone has installed a phone cable that runs out a window, down to a little telecom box bolted to the side of the house at the lower floor level. I am assuming this is where the line enters the house.

At the end of this cable (inside) is a normal Telecom jack box. But three things are concerning about this:
1. The cable must be 20m long.
2. Where it exits the window, there are two sharp right angles in the cable so it can sit in the framing gutter with the window closed. (It's one of those windows with hinges at the top)
3. The cable looks like bollocks on an aesthetic level.

So after checking the router setting, I will try the proper wall mounted jacks downstairs.

Speed - I did a few speed tests (speedtest.net) last night at around 12:30am. These are approximations and I expected them with all this chatter in the "other" thread. Sorry I hope the measuring units are always the same as I can't remember them.

Wellington D: 950 U: 500
Sydney D: 850 U: 400
LA D: 600 U: 250

Maybe an off-peak speed test would show a line problem? Or is 12:30 easily off-peak anyway?

Hello Aaron,

Looking at your connection logs i can see that the root of your issue is the disconnections you are currently getting on your DSL line. I have requested an adjustment made to your line (this usually results in a 1-1.5meg drop in sync rate) and to have placed on a analyzer to determine the cause should the new profile fail to stabilize your conenction. The entire process should take around 48hours, will update you once i have been advised of the results.

Should I try moving the gear to another jackpoint, or is it better for your analysis if I just leave everthing as it is after checking the "Always Connected" connected setting?

Just remembered something about this speed test actually. My email client would have been on in the background while I run these tests. I've been offline at home for 2 months and it was downloading a shade over 10,000 emails (55Mb worth).

Probably made an impact on the speedtest. The POP server is in London too.

Nicholas,

I just went home for lunch and all the lights on the AM300 and WRP400 are good and the modem appeared to be connected. However still no internet or dialtone. Nor can I access the modem interface at 192.168.1.1.

Back to router issues again? I didn't have time to test the internet direct from PC to modem.

But my main question is, should I ring Xnet with this tonight? Or am I better off just leaving it and playing the waiting game with your Analysis?

Your attenuation and noise margins indicate you should be syncing at well above your current rates. I would be inclined to go over the physical setup on the DSL line into the modem. You are on nDSL so you dont need to run any filters and connecting the AM300 directly to jack point would be ideal if you currently dont have it set up as such. Of course there is still a chance the sync rate is due to a line fault or internal house wiring also. There is also the wildcard of the AM300 being faulty and a test using another modem might be in order if you can source one.

Okey Dokey,

So I will move the modem to one of the down stairs jacks tonight. There is one about 1m from where the external Telecom box goes into the house. Probably my best bet.

I'll post back here when I have done that. (Assuming I can get online again). This won't be for another hour probably, so I might have to wait till tomorrow for the result, which is cool.

In all fairness to Xnet, Telecom and Linksys, all but two of the jacks in the house look very make-shift indeed. Including the one in use for those results of yours obviously.

I don't have access to another modem sorry. I'd have to buy one. I might get a WAG54GP2 when they arrive. This two-unit setup is a bit much for me. But in any case, that won't be for another month anyway.

Hi Nicholas,

Just letting you know that I have moved the modem down stairs to the closest jack point to where the line comes into the house. Still can't connect to it through the WRP400 so I am online directly with the AM300. The router problem must be something different altogether.

Let me know what your analysis stuff tells you.

Not looking promising at my end:

I'm not worried about the speeds by the way. I understand you guys are having a few issues with Intl traffic at the mo. I would have thought the AKL test would be alot better than Syd and LA.
