Well details of what the 2.4ghz bug is? I have one older laptop still on 2.4 that likes too randomly drop off. I'm trying to trouble shoot it.

It has a good enough signal 3 bars and connected at 150mbit and channel is clear of neighbours

I havn't updated, still using version 20 hence asking furthur details before proceeding.

I just thought I'd come back and add my 2c to the thread. I had a client months and months back who was having the disappearing Forwarding rule issue where a group of rules to the same MAC address would all disappear while others would stay. I complained to their Vodafone Rep who forwarded me to support who informed me that vodafone "Don't support port forwarding. The router is providing an internet connection which is what they are contracted to do" or words to that effect. At that point I spoke to the rep again who agreed that if I supplied a router he'd credit the amount so he could see the frustration. Come forward months and I had a client switch from Cable to Fibre - The Cable router they had didn't do VLAN tagging so figured I'd give the HG659 another go and sure enough. Roughly once a week one of their servers forwarding rules would drop out (25 to a linux gateway, pptp to file and print and https to exchange) and I'd login and plonk them all back in.

I jumped here figuring if I'd find the answer anywhere I'd be geekzone and lo and behold I found this thread the day the Vodafone contact reported the new firmware. I went in last night and did the upgrade as it sounded like doing it remotely it was going to factory reset it and I'd lose remote access. Turns out the issue of whether or not your settings stay must be related to how old your firmware is. Mine was only a minor jump (I wish I'd recorded the firmware version first sorry) and all settings stayed. Only time will tell if its definitely resolved but as that was one of the two issues this firmware was written to fix I think we can be pretty confident it will.

They aren't amazing the HG659's but ignoring the bugs that are hopefully resolved now for an all in one device they have pretty quick reasonable coverage wifi and good throughput so fingers crossed they'll be a reasonable entry point for people not wanting to spend more.

Personally at home I've spent around $600 on two powerful unifi ap's and a unifi gateway (Purely for the interesting statistics it gathers) and I'm incredibly happy that my wifi always exceeds the 100Mbit fibre conncection anywhere in the two story house.

Thanks to @MikeHales for bringing it to our attention - I love the forums here that Vodafone etc actually monitor them in the interest of customer satisfaction. I haven't seen an international forum that works as well as Geekzone. The closest would be Spiceworks but too often there are people plugging their products in response to questions and people who call themselves IT Consultants who don't seem to have moved past 2010

I never had a single issue with the B013 firmware in my times of using it, Wifi was good, Port forwarding worked.
Up to like 28 now i think?

I had a client in March that had a NVR security system that we port forwarded so you could watch the cameras from a phone. It would just spontaneously drop the forwarding rules even though the NVR was never off and never as much as rebooting. The latest client had two HP Servers running 2008R2 and 2012R2 and an Intel NUC running Ubuntu. The 2008R2 HP Server's port forwarding rules dropped off twice in two weeks, the HP 2012R2 server once and the NUC once which was the final straw to get in after hours and update the firmware.

I don't know what it is - I wondered with the NVR if it was the fact the NVR never had any reason to initiate internet traffic, all traffic was initiated from external devices and that inactivity was what dropped it but these servers again aren't used for browsing etc and much of their traffic is externally initiated but lets face it, A Microsoft server operating system checking for updates and it was the DNS server so would have been doing all external DNS lookups for the whole network would have been constantly chattering.

It might only have been this years firmware revisions doing it - Maybe if you were on earlier firmware (The old ones that had the VG.... admin password rather than the @xxxxxxxx passwords?) they didn't have the fault but the only two I've used port forwarding on for clients have both done it.

The Latest firmware seems to have fixed my issue with Laptop Wifi
