I am on Xnet HSI, but i sync to my exchange at 16mbps yet I am limited to 7.6mbps ???

If Xnet were giving ADSL2+ to everyone that is able to receive it then surely I would have it by now.

Regardless of if you are on a ADSL1 or 2+ connection, if your upload is 130k (ie not FS) then the most you will ever get is around 4.5Mb/s anyway. Only FS/FS plans can achieve downloads much above 4.5Mb/s

Ok so after all that is xNet going to comment on when the offical launch date of ADSL2+ is going to be ?
Everyone might syncing at the new speeds and xNet staff saying its already avialable but its not officially ADSL2+

The official launch date will (should) be when Telecom launches it, which I believe is soon.

If you and your neighbours connect with ADSL2+, then you have the advantage of less crosstalk from your neighbours.  This is because ADSL1 transmits at full power, but from ADSL2 onwards there is a protocol where the exchange and modem negotiates the transmitting power to the minimum required to sustain a reliable connection.  There are other advantages as well, but this is the major one.  It is not just about faster speeds, but also about quality.

If the network can not yet sustain everyone running at ADSL2+ speeds, then it is a good thing that they limit your speed until they are ready to provide a quality service (on which their VFX also relies).

Limiting the speed until ADSL2+ is launched is probably also a marketing strategy, which is not for us to dictate how it should be done.

Query.....

Im currently getting a connection rate of approx 2.5mbps - Telecom say I will NEVER see above 3 because of where I am (which is BS as per some of my other threads around the place...I had 5.5 for 36hrs last week) - when ADSL2+ is all go, am I liable to see any benefit ? Or Im destined to stay on 2.5 until I redo all the street wiring myself ? Tongue out

Im in Glenfield, only about 2-2.5k from what Ive been told is our local exchange.

Probably not, Most exchanges have the ADSL2+ hardware in them so you should be able to sync at ADSL2+ already, if its still only syncing at a low rate then thats what you will be stuck with.

Once you start moving beyond 2km the ADSL1 vs ADSL2+ rates pretty much merge, ie no change. What are you attenuation and S/N reading. at 2.5km on ADSL1 you should readily be able to pull 6Mb/s or more.

At that distance you might be syncing to your exchange on RE-ADSL2 which after my expiriences after i've dropped I sometimes reconnect to this and taking readings of SNR when on RE-ADSL2 would tend to tell me something is wrong since my average SNR is 8ish when syncing at 16mbps but 35ish when syncing to RE-ADSL2 at a max of around 3mbps

When I first switched to Xnet last week, I was getting 5.5mbps for approx 36hrs... then dropped down to 2.5.

Data Rate
Stream Type Actual Data Rate
Up Stream 165 (Kbps.)
Down Stream 2864 (Kbps.)
Operation Data
Operation Data Upstream Downstream
Noise Margin 14 dB 14 dB
Attenuation 41 dB 39 dB

Defect Indication
Indicator Name Near End Indicator Far End Indicator
Fast Path FEC Correction 0 0
Interleaved Path FEC Correction 4 72821
Fast Path CRC Error 0 0
Interleaved Path CRC Error 0 272
Loss of Signal Defect 1 ---
Fast Path HEC Error 0 0
Interleaved Path HEC Error 0 0

Real annoying thing though is that when I had Telecom out over a year ago for a rate issue, the guy said that 4mbps was average for my area. Now when I talk to Telecom, they say 3mbps is the most Ill ever see and that Ive NEVER EVER had over 3mbps. But as stated before, been though my ranting via other posts :)

With a downstream 39dB attenuation (which indicates around 2.8km of line) and 14dB S/N you should be able to achieve nearlly full ADSL1 speed or at least better than 6Mb/s. Have you tried locking the modem to ADSL1 (G.dmt).

How many phone sockets are in the house, how are they wired, is there a central filter or just several micro filters.

And other obvious questions have you removed all in house line stubs, to do this go to the first phone jack in the house closest the demark, unscrew the jack and disconnect all wiring other than the wiring the inbound line, what do you get then.

Been thru most of that..... central filter install....... 2 phone points + the adsl socket.......  tried forcing modulation, made it even worse...... etc etc.

Just had contact with someone at Xnet who is going to have a poke around for me. So fingers crossed I get a better answer than the Telecom one of "tuff bikkies". Laughing

Im not having a very good time with communication companies lately...

3Com ADSL2+....

But sorted now by the looks of things, my friendly Xnet contact got onto Telecom and theyve made a change.... logging into my router remotely shows a much better connection at this point in time, fingers crossed it holds.

They did say though it might still be a router issue with its chipset etc...but we'll see.

This is a good thing on long lines. Notice much improved stability. The downside is a much lower up-stream though. On ADSL1or2, get a good 700up, but on RE-ADSL2 about 185up. Not good for 2 simultaneous VFX calls, or emailing large files.
