When is xNet going to launch ADSL2+?

I see there are few ISP's launching ADSL2+ Orcon being the first to roll it out, I have a friend who is on orcon adsl2+ service and is getting 17Mbps on average down and 800 -1000 up

Is xnet looking at launching this this year? I no they will need to install there own hardware in the exchanges, but with Telecom soon to roll out ADSL2+ i would assume that Telecom will start to offer ADSL2+ to other ISPS at wholesale rates (maybe)

I gues its not a question of if xnet are going to offer ADS2+ its when is it going to happen!!

You may be living in the past, Telecom rolled out adsl2+ a long while back, orcon is installing there own gear, thats all. Your isp does not have to install there own gear for you to experience adsl2+ because most exchanges have it already. You will find you are on adsl2+ already but don't live close enough to the exchange to see a major speed increase. I am on 11500kbps with download speeds reaching 1mb/s and I am with xnet.

True Telecom may have rolled out ADSL2+ but they are yet to promote it, as I’ve heard from someone at Telecom they are not putting new customers on ADSL2+. Orcon has been the only company to officially roll out ADSL2+ to the consumer and market it as such.

I currently get between 7Mbps to 12Mbps and I live about a 2 min walk from Telecom central exchange in Auckland and see it from my window. If anything the speeds are ADSL2. Most people don’t realise that there is ADSL (upto 8Mbps), ADSL2 (upto 12Mbps) and ADSL2+ (upto 24-27Mbps) so I doubt very much that xNet have started to put their customers on ADSL2+ connections (unless for testing). They will need to install their own DSLAMS or buy wholesale off someone who has already got the own hardware in the exchange i.e. Telecom, Orcon. ADSL 1 Modems have a maximum speed of 8000kbps (8Mb) so there is no way to get a faster speed out of them, the actually DSLAM can go slightly higher then this so if you have a ADSL2+ modem which almost all modems sold today are you are going to get slightly higher sync rates depending on the usual factors effecting adsl broadband. ADSL2+ will effectively go up to 27Mbps in an ideal environment.

So my question is still, "When is xNet going to roll out ADSL2+ officially as Orcon has done and offer ADSL2+ plans"

XNet Fusion plans already support upto ADSL2+ speeds where available :)

If you are connected to a Telecom DSLAM (ISAM if ADSL2+) then you are on 2+ speeds, regardless of your ISP. This document shows which exchanges have been upgraded to ADSL2+ with dates indicated, central auckland might still be in migration at this time.

Bottom line is if you are on a upgraded exchange that has been fully migrated to adsl2+ then you have it regardless of what the marketing hype has told you. This assumes there is not some limit placed further upstream by your ISP, ie Fusion is full speed, HSI appears to limit to 8Mb/s.

NOw if only ADSL2 were available in smaller country towns...im in Foxton and will prolly get it in 20 years...

According to this Foxten and Foxten Beach are on the list, but no schedule yet, so I guess sometime 2012.

The main point I was trying to make, is that Telecom DSLAMs dont have any crippling, you are either on a ADSL1 or ADSL2+ connection to the DSLAM, your ISP can manipulate rates beyond that, most dont, Xnet are one that do, this is not a ADSL related limit.

I am on Xnet Fusion and have to say that I am getting ADSL2+ speeds. When downloaading Microsoft updates I am hitting 1.5MBps (Have a sync rate of 15261kbps) so this is about right. I am on the Mt Albert Exchange

Just wish it applied to all traffic

what makes you think HSI *should* be upgraded to ADSL2+?
increasing the speed of the connection will most likely mean the pricing for the plans will need to be revisited. wouldnt it make more sense to have a whole new plan catered for ADSL2+ speeds? oh wait. fusion.

A good question. I don't want naked DSL, nor a broadband/phone bundle, so Fusion isn't for me. What I do want is a broadband connection that is as good as it can be, without being complicated by package deals, at a reasonable price. This is a key reason why I switched to xnet in the first place (at a time when most ISPs packaged internet and telephone... oh wait, most still do).

With most Telecom exchanges moving to ADSL2+, I see little reason to artificially limit speeds to the obsolete ADSL1 standard. However, I suspect that xnet see it differently.

So brings us to the fact that pretty well all other ISPs have clothed full speed plans (ie as fast as your link goes including thru to 24kb/s, which I guess it related directly to the enforcersnz's post.

ADSL2+ is not officially launched yet, so I do not think anyone can insist on having it even though many other ISPs give it to whoever can have it. Once it is officially launched, then it will be a different story. I'm interested to hear WxC's reasoning for putting us on ADSL1 profiles, though.

The ISP's don't decide because its not there hardware, and as that quote above says adsl2+ is avalible to all xnet customers where available. Where did you get the idea they are putting people on adsl1 profiles?

Note the fourth answer in this FAQ from xnets HSI info sheet. So one assumes HSI plans have a 8M/bs limit at Xnet's end, or this FAQ is spelt wrong.
