this does sound to me like the delay is DHCP related so opperating in dumb AP mode may not help.

Be worth a try though?

Turn off DNS, DHCP etc on your linksys. plug a cable from LAN in the VF Modem into the LAN on Linksys modem.

Connect to wireless of Linksys. This will effectively put it into a dumb AP mode, allowing you to connect over it's wifi but have all routing handled by the Vodafone router.

The problem appears not with the wireless but with LAN too and ONLY when I connect from home to an office through VPN(OpenVPN) on Win10 or Win7, desktop or laptop. it keeps the connection like ~5-10min and then drops it. So I'm not quite sure if its something to do with the wireless. Plus I use local static IPs for my devices, so not sure for DHCP too.

The rest connection is 99% stable.

The problem appears not with the wireless but with LAN too and ONLY when I connect from home to an office through VPN(OpenVPN) on Win10 or Win7, desktop or laptop. it keeps the connection like ~5-10min and then drops it. Right, okay my understanding was a little off ball to the problem then.

In that case, you have really narrowed it down to that device.

I'd have suspected this was some sort of firewall 'helper function' but those tend to exist for ipsec rather than openvpn..

Have you considered replacing the router with something build for purpose such as a Edge router?

Thats the problem, I paid for the router $500(family complained about weak wifi in our big house, this router solved the problem) and it worked fine until I moved to the new plan, even this problem wasn't exists for me. I don't think I can sale this router for a good money, so it is a waist plus I have to spend the money again for a new router. Not a good plan for me.

Hi,

I see Vodafone has a 500 meg service on the cable, would this be better than a 100 meg fiber? we do a lot of gaming and streaming. We are currently on the Vodafone 100 meg cable

I want to see if I can bring my latency/pings down. We also at the end of our 2yrs contract so don't get the "special" price anymore. So looking at options. Thee 500 will cost the same as our current out of contract price. We now have fibre in the area, so if thats better then that could be an option also.

I get 300ms to the game servers like wot in the US. Not sure it it will help with that. An no, I don't game over wifi :) I am in Karori, if that helps

http://deepfocus.io/wot_ping.php and I see the same in game. My son gets high pigs on game like league of legends and fortnite.

@01EG I would put the vodafone hub into bridge mode and use the Linksys behind it if you want to keep your setup similar to how you had it before. At the very least keep it for wifi since you know that it works well in your house.

@postitman42 fibre will bring down ping locally if you historically had a not-so-great copper line. If what you already had was already good then you won't see much change.

Internationally it will be based on how each ISP routes their traffic. 2degrees is a favourite, but you won't really know until you get on their service, and it can always change over time.

The problem is that Linksys can't handle VPN connection for some reason anymore, it did when I was on the old cable Motorola modem plan. With new plan it can't and Vodafone hub CAN(and this why Vodafone says it my problem not their, and wont help), so no point to have the hub behind the Linksys as it will drop connection anyway.

Plus I gave up, it does not work at all. Vodafone main router Linksys AP(bridge mode). All devices with dynamic ips are loosing what ever I do. :( so looking for a new router as Vodafone hub can't cover with wifi my house, the signal is too weak. plus not enough ethernet ports, just 3 and I need 6 ports min.

Fortnite - Last nights patch added an option to monitor ping/data throughput in game. Load into a map, click the settings button - Game tab - HUB subtab (this doesnt appear unless you are in map) - turn on net debug stats.

Also I believe all PVE servers have been moved to Singapore (not sure if temp or perm), I was on 200+ms last night vs the 30/40 odd previously when it was in Syd.
