Our RBI not only switches to 3G for voice but also switches towers (to a more remote site) and as a result I loose internet service for duration of call. Vodafone not very helpful on problem.

(they should give me a second RBI service for phone only until they solve network problem e.g lock my modem to a particular tower or provide VoLTE)

Have set B525 modem to "4G Only" to "fix" problem (and use mobile phones for voice)

Don't want to go data only on RBI as I want to keep my landline number for future

Does this mean they can turn 4g up so that it stops falling back to useless 3g all the time?

This is what I'm looking forward to the most TBH. So frustrating when I'm at the edge of LTE coverage and my phone oscillates between (1) weak but perfectly usable LTE service and (2) weak but next to useless 3G service. When 2degrees turned on band 8 LTE (aka LTE on 900 MHz) it was an eye opener how much better LTE is compared to 3G in the same location on the same frequency from the same site. One location worked at I had 3G service on 900 MHz which struggled to provide a reliable data connection, then when band 8 LTE came online all of a sudden I had a reliable data connection over 4G that worked fine 100% of the time. Probably a 'mistake' as the LTE service probably 'shouldn't' have extended that far out but does show how good LTE is at handling weak signals. So turning down LTE for the sake of preserving voice coverage is definitely not using LTE's full potential me as the coverage/quality could be so much better.

My iPhone X works happily on EE in the UK with wifi calling and VoLTE and I bought it from spark. So far the only thing I’ve noticed, in settings it says ‘mobile’ whereas EE iPhones say ‘mobile data’ and some others say ‘cellular’

Have you loaded the latest carrier bundle?

Edit: I take it you are using a VodafoneNZ SIM in the VoLTE coverage area?

That probably came down when I first put the SIM card in, Im assuming that’s what enables it and it doesn’t matter where you bought the iPhone, just the sim you’ve got?

To be sure you have the latest carrier bundle, go to: Settings -> General -> About

If there is an update it will pop up saying an update is available after a few seconds

The latest carrier bundle was only released today so you may need to force the handset to obtain it

What’s the version of the latest update? Does it show outside the VoLTE areas?

Thanks

@Kickass just make sure you have latest iOS and carrier bundle and you should see VoLTE option which can be toggled off and on

I’m running IOS13 Beta 1 with Carrier Version 36.5 and can’t see anything.

note i am located in Auckland Central though... so maybe you need to in the coverage area to get the carrier update.

Where would it show up?

Hopefully this means LTE Apple Watch support is coming very very soon! :)

My wife's iPhone now has 4G option set for voice and data, so now just need to wait for VoLTE to come to the Waikato.

That comes down to how their handover is configured....
