Lower the priority of the offending app! Not everybody cares about the rugby.

Yes - this mad obsession with grown men chasing balls round muddy fields is now apparently sufficient to justify interfering with the lives of people who do not care about it just so others can watch it live of they are too tight to buy Sky or whatever you need...

As I feared, it's not looking good. We were informed by email that the changes would be coming in for us on the 26th of August. Here's a snapshot of speeds from before and after the 26th.

You can see that even when was I using a VPN (which I have been doing for a year), speeds were typically between 5 and 12 mbps. This morning I am getting between 1-3 mbps download speeds even without a VPN, although upload speed is quite fast. I hope they don't consider my total bandwidth to be upload+download speed. It's the download that really counts.

I will keep an eye on speeds over the next few days

Christ, if that keeps up i'd have an issue with it, currently working through changing my parents to this service as ADSL is the only available service and they're avg 4/6MBps......not much quicker to change and less hassle

Interesting, I have a client that’s been getting very similar terrible download speeds but decent uploads on RBI for weeks. I’ve had to lock the modem to 3G only, which actually made it go faster. Maybe this new limiting feature isn’t working properly?

Where I am rurally, all we can get is 3G anyway. SO that's what this is.

I just checked the speed again now (5:20pm) and it was 2.09 Mbps though Vodafone NZ Auckland server.

I don't suppose there's anything I can do but phone and complain. They are supposed to be capping everyone at 30 Mbps (see OP) but we never got that speed anyway, so really, it shouldn't slow down at all.

Plus, the World Cup hasn't even started yet. So why is it slowing down now??

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

@Jos1969 that is above the regulated speed so not much you can do

I am sure it's slowing down cause of the number of users attached to the serving cell

It's getting bad now. Speed in the evening and night is not much better than 0.50 Mbps.

@JasonParis are you aware of any issues?
