The phone service just _works_, and the voicemail to email redirect is a killer-app.  I haven't had to check my voicemail in months!

I think it's a very sad day when attacks against any company seem to verge on being personal.

The growth of internet traffic has grown substancially with P2P traffic becoming a nightmare for every ISP around the world. We have people in NZ wanting high speed flat rate non traffic shaped internet for $29.95 per month without realising that it's simply not possible to deliver that. The "myth" that NZ is one of the few countries with data caps is also being blown out the door with announcements by ISP's everywhere in the world (including the USA) who are now capping "unlimited" plans and introducing traffic shaping to try and kerb the frantic growth of P2P traffic.

Don't worry about the IPV6 issue folks - the internet will be out of business by then with people watching youtube and downoading pr0n and pirates videos and music! :-)

Rather than targetting WxC maybe people should just vote with their feet - if you are unhappy with their service then move to another ISP. You're not locked into a contract and are free to move. I'm not a user of their DSL service so am not in a position to comment on issues such as speed because they don't affect me, but I can say without a doubt their voice offering is the best offering in the NZ markerplace and as a company WxC have shown a commitment to drive NZ into the 21st century by having a heavy involvement with FTTH rollouts in all new subdivisions where Telecom are now only laying fibre and not copper.

Would a 3 tiered business model work? Cheap traffic shaped nternet for those who want cheap internet, a premium product with higher CIR's for those who want to pay a higher price and lastly a high end product for business customers. Xtra tried this and failed - is it a model that can really work?

Piri: So why don't they answer their emails?

This is not the correct forum for that. I think you will find that here.
As I have said to people before feel free to PM me and i can answer any questions.
Please keep on topic as all we are trying to do is preserve the extraordinary service that maverick and team have given us of late.
Comments like that will push them further away.

I am not trying to say that not replying to emails is ok, I am just saying we all get overwelmed by emails at one point or another.

Hmmmm

+1  No problems here - the download speeds from akamai & gamplanet are awesome! (and free!). Slight issue with the dns yesterday, but things like that happen to the best of them.

No major issues, just frustrations over some things but network performance has been fine for me bar the outages which couldnt be helped.Laughing

+1 here as well.

Been with them since April 2006 and loved their service and value.  Am on Fusion and loved their VFX product - it's been superb.

+1 here too,

Have been with them for 4 months now, after leaving telstraclear looking for better flexiblity, billing, and support. Since the change speed has stayed the same, 6.9mb dl and 500Kb ul, although a small drop in upload, and latency has dropped from mid 40's to 15 to 25ms. So am rather impressed.

My only little gripe is speed from 10pm onwards to international is an issue for me personally. But its not enough of an issue for me to change.

So personally the Pro's outweigh the Con's.

One thing I have noticed is Telstraclear I would get disconnected on ADSL at least twice a day, for no apparent reason, With Xnet I stay connected for hundreds of hours sometimes bloody awesum!

Agreed - if you dont like it move. I just moved to Snap from Xnet a couple of days ago, wish I had done it sooner. I was with Xnet for ~2 years but since the torrent plan was introduced I had found I was unable to use my connection for various content at the times I wanted.  Previous to this I had no issues and was quite satisfied with Xnet however.

Sorry but I find it ironic people can complain about people whinging they virtually have periods of each and every day they are unable to get better than a dialup experience on their ADSL connections when they have not been subjected to this. That sounds like a pretty justified whinge to me? Especially when Xnet themselves have publicly stated on these forums in the past that they acknowledge capacity issues.

Think of what you are asking, if you had issues which many of the forum members here have been experiencing would you not feel compelled to post regarding your frustrations? Would ignoring the issue make it better? Would locking down discussion on the topic not effectively reduce the value of these forums to the public?

I understand the mods have a pretty tough time keeping things constructive at times and probably do get sick of reading the same thing over and over again. TBH I get sick of reading gripes too and I'm one of the ones who up until a few days ago was effected by the issues people have raised. It's good that people not having issues (perhaps because of their different usage habits) post as well so people stumbling along to these forums get a bit more balanced view.

If you dont like it then leave, I think we are all agreed on that. However I do again find it ironic that a forum where Xnet have purportedly chosen to communicate with their customers, fails to communicate to said customers anything regarding, what one would presume given the number of posts, is one of the bigger customer complaints they face currently (other than a statement acknowledging an issue and this would be addressed at some indeterminate point in the future).

Thats my 2c on the matter anyhow for what its worth.

Recommend XNet all the time...   Best ISP in NZ in my view...

Personally I haven't had any major issues in 10 months on Fusion.   Love the data billing as you go, great idea...

I would have said the same a few days ago. However I have been waiting a few days for them to reply to my email, after billing problems, which still have not been resolved.

+0.5...

I really do like Xnet, and they really do give excellent value. And I do recognise that the two recent outages were not their fault. I'm just coming to the end of the uni year and have ~10,000 words left to write - and research, so I've been particularly sensitive to losing access to research materials!

Here here!  I came from telstra-clear and there was simply no comaparison.  Broadband on in three days from order and voip on the same day I rang thru my mac address.
I would tel you how long it took to get connected thru TC but you probly woudnt believe me.
My only concern is the proprietry nature of the voip setup...  but thats just me...  I would rather have gotten in there and configured it all myself rather than have them reflash it over the intrawebanet
