WxC can push a new config. down to your PAP2T any time they choose. Surely that does constitute access to the device, albeit not complete access as one has when logged in???

I consider sending a command to force a provision reload is slightly differing to "having access" to the device.

I'm not sure you can reasonably make that distinction. In any case, it's academic: any limitation of access the current firmware may create can be immediatelly remobed by pushing out a firmware that grants them immediate access. I would like to draw a metaphor to constitutional law, but that's silly. Let's leave it at that.

Finally, in terms of VFX 'taking control' of the device I can see why people might object to this. However, I think it's fairly clear (and if it's not perhaps it should be more so) what Xnet's policy is towards these devices.

Working in IT myself I really can't understand how anyone who cares about their quality of life has a problem with this, because:

1. It makes the devices plug and play
2. It removes much of the capacity for human error (esp. important if you're rolling out a number of devices) and also significantly reduces the human capital you've got to put into getting the devices up and running, updated etc.
3. It makes trouble shooting with the ISP much easier if for some reason it's ever needed.
4. If you do need anything changed it's as easy as getting in touch with the VFX team with your MAC address.
5. It just works. I don't understand why this isn't the number one priority for all IT managers: first, you should be purchasing things that work for your clients, but above that you're much better of for your business and your sanity to be in a position of consulting and deploying with happy customers as opposed to fighting fires with angry ones.

I have now reset my pap2t and have set it up with italk with my own settings and my own dialing rules.

as I suspected sound quality is unbelivibly better.
