Put something on local community pages and you might find one. I gave mine away on mine.

One of the properties i am involved with is completely dependent on the SS for cellular coverage when inside the house.

Have picked up a spare some months ago from FB marketplace, you may have some luck there also

I sold my SS on trademe, got almost $500 for it - they're worth their weight in gold if you can find one.

Philbert:

I've just moved back into my former Auckland home after 7 years in Wellington and was disappointed to find virtually zero cellphone reception still despite living in the heart of Schnapper Rock (all the coverage signals say excellent 3G and 4G but they also said that 7 years ago as well!).

When I was here last time I had a sure signal but that is long gone so dialled up Vodafone chat to ask them what my options were - thinking that if nothing else they could supply me a VOIP phone to call forward to.  The first person I chatted with suggested a third party booster but the second person told me that Vodafone was offering a "new" 3G/4G booster from 1 Jun 2021 and that they will eventually be offering a 5G booster as well.

They were unable/unwilling to provide any further details such as technical specs or if there will be a cost but seemed pretty clear that it was rolling out very shortly.

Has anyone else heard anything on this?

So - 1 Jun 21 been and gone and nothing seen. Another chat with Vodafone today confirms no plans for a replacement booster (so bad advice from the earlier help desk chat but not that surprised!) and that wifi calling is expected at "some stage in the next 12-18 months".

I asked if Vodafone could provide me a VOIP phone in the interim however this is not possible as Vodafone no longer supplies VOIP hardware so they suggested my only options were:

1. buy my own VOIP hardware and plan for an undefined interim period

2. buy my own 3rd party booster for an undefined interim period

I suggested a 3rd option - switch provider at zero cost (in fact - I'd probably get some perks for taking my average $450+ spend per month to someone else) at which stage they sent me to the retention team.

I asked the retention team if they could provide any further clarity as to when wifi calling is coming or if they would consider a credit to offset the cost of the interim hardware I need given I have spent a lot of money with them since they were Bell South and the only reason I am in this mess is that they retired sure signal before rolling out wifi calling.

They could not help in either case so I guess I'm now looking at stumping up myself or using this as the trigger for a provider change after 20+ years!

Launching in June does not mean it will launch in the first week and front line teams will not know about the new service only the day before!

In fact - there are two more options that I had not considered.

- Fit one of my old cellphones with a spark or 2 degrees pre-pay sim and use that as a home phone in the interim

- Break my old skype number back out and forward my cellphone to that when at home

No hardware costs and if only using it for when I'm at home will prob work out cheaper than either VOIP hardware or a booster provided wifi calling arrives at some stage soon

Although changing provider might still be easier (and is def least expensive option)

Thanks but in a moment of clarity I decided that the answer was even more simple given I have a dual sim phone......I will buy a pre-pay spark or 2deg sim as an interim solution to cover me for periods of no-service from Vodafone when at home.  If Vodafone still hasn't gripped up wifi calling in a few months time I might then look to move for good.

I know SS is an obsolete product, however Vodafone should be providing an interim solution, or at-least extending the availability of SS until a replacement solution becomes available - in this case WiFi calling.  From a customer point of view it doesn't look good on a company to discontinue a service that is working perfectly fine, leaving a gap with no service until a replacement or "upgraded" service becomes available with no solid reason for doing so - and this is exactly what Vodafone has done with SS.

It also doesn't look good to discontinue a service that is working perfectly fine, and (eventually) replace it with something that the majority of users can't use.

I can't see why. The list of handsets compatible with 2degrees WiFi calling is long.
