Issues with many Malls great big concrete jungle (mainly caused by the big car parks around them)

Bella went to stay with the grandparents this morning and me and Jann headed to Queensgate. At certain point we decided to split so she could do some shopping and I walked around. We met at the car park to leave and she complained "I couldn't call you to arrange to meet somewhere else".

I told her "yes, I know. It's appaling and this has been discussed a few times on Geekzone already"...

As "appalling" as it is, it really makes you wonder how the world revolved pre cellphones.....

I quite often appreciate the times that I'm unconnected.

While I agree with that comment for other malls the issue with Queensgate is nothing more than poor network design.

The sectorisation of the site was changed when the 3G gear was deployed. I'm guessing this was to (in part) to improve coverage further up High around the Melling/VIC area as this used to be very poor. This would be quite a logical thing to do if an inbuilding solution was being deployed for the mall but after 3 years I think it's obvious that nothing is happening.

The Lower Hutt site also has 1800 panels but these have a slightly different sectorisation to the 900/2100 gear. There are no other 1800 sites for ~20km so moving these would easily fix the problem while still providing capacity to the Hutt CBD.

This is an interesting comment. How did the world revolve before automobiles, trains and planes? How did the world revolve before consumer Internet access?

My point is... [evolution] happens and things move forward. People adopt technologies and take these for granted. This happened before with POTS and now with cellular communications.

Why are vodafone not more proactive about sorting out coverage in places like this? If the mall owners are being uncooperateive then just say so, lack of signal is a problem when I was on call and shopping so I would avoid places with out it. Its in the malls interests to have good solid coverage thru the whole place IMO.
