nztim: or talk to a WISP Wheronet?
Yes Wheronet, They have gear up on the Klondykes, it might be able to reach.
jbag: On a separate note can anyone tell me if I should try switching to VDSL? Vodafone said I could a few years ago and I tried but it was disasterous but I think potentially there were other factors in play.
I live on Needham Road in Paerata. Currently on Vodafone ADSL and getting around 10mbps down and under 1mbps up. When I switched to VDSL it was around the same speeds but might have been settling in as I was told. Then suddenly it completely dropped out and died and became unusable but I actually believe it was just coincidental that the neighbour had damaged one of the lines when digging with a digger....
@coffeebaron Fraser should be able to determine what you should be getting via copper services and if there's any work needing to be done to bring it up to it's best it can do.

If you can post your existing ADSL line stats that may help, although your existing speeds don't sound like you could potentially get VDSL.

The beginning of Needham road is 1.5km from cabinet. This is the general limit of good VDSL. After that upload speed will drop quite significantly. Every line is different though, I have seen occasional good VDSL in some locations at nearer 2km. One of the biggest issues with ADSL or VDSL with low upstream speed, is upstream saturation. I.E. a few photos are uploading to the cloud, or a large email being sent, then whole internet stops. 1Mbps upstream is too slow for a lot of things these days.

You might need to adapt twice. N to SMA then to TS9 - what antenna and cable do you currently have? It's not that common to have N Type at the 'inside' end of the cable.
Depending on what you have at the antenna end, assuming there is a N Type at the antenna end, and you have a N to N cable from the antenna to 'inside', you could replace that cable with something like this.

Yeah I saw this website but the antenna I got is of n type not SMA
Use a pigtail to go into the back of the B818, if you use an adapter it may put strain on the connector and damage it.
As above has eluded to, you may have to use two pigtails to get the connector you want.

Have you considered Starlink?
