Apologies, mobile processes are probably the most foreign to me but this is incorrect. There's a clear process for disabling this function.

You're welcome to DM me your number and I'll remove Roaming capability and enlighten the agent you spoke to.

Thanks for the offer but I think I'll just remove the SIM card before take-off. I'll take a little zip-lock bag to keep it in while I'm away.

Just so you know, undelivered txt messages will only be stored by us for a short time (72 hours if I recall correctly) but they are free to receive while roaming. If it's not too much hassle and/or you're expecting something important, then it might be a good idea to swap your NZ SIM back in for 15 mins or so every couple of days so that your phone picks up any messages that might be waiting.

I volunteer my time on here, and all opinions expressed are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of my employer.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to do that!

Don't turn on roaming until you get off the plane. Some international flights have roaming now and the rates are crazy.

My plan is to get on the plane and turn off mobile data (just leave WiFi enabled) and turn off the phone. At each stop on the way I'll turn the phone on and use the airport's WiFi. Once I get to the UK I'll visit a Vodafone shop (there's one just up the road from where I'm staying) and get the new SIM card, remove my NZ SIM and replace it with the UK one and finally turn mobile data back on.
