quickymart:

I see the S23 is eSIM compatible - do I absolutely need to use eSIM, or can I just bring across from existing SIM from my current phone (assuming they're both the same size)?

Nope. If you have a Sim just use it.

Query, what bands does Vodafone use for 5G in NZ?
I already know:

2G/3G = 900/2100

4G = bands 3, 7 and 28

5G = ?

Just asking as an S21 might work (they have an FM radio - operator dependent) but I don't want to go ahead and import one and then find 5G doesn't work on it.

I've found that they can detect where you are and adjust accordingly - but good point. I think Japan is the only country in the world with a weird FM band (76-95FM or something).

Later this year I'll also be changing phones to one without FM radio receiver I think I might have a play around with an SDR receiver dongle I expect it should be easy enough to find an app based front end to stream commercial stations over a data connection from home PC/server.

if you are okay leaving samsung there is this from PB Tech.

Not looked at reviews but the specs look alright for $400 has the FM Radio, 3.5mm jack and expandable memory... or at least PB tech says it does.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that one is a bit too big for my hands - may as well get a tablet 😃

Lol, it's a larger phone but in line with some of the chunky Samsungs.

Someone made a video for hand reference.

But definitely could be too large for your wants/needs.
