nztim:for the difference in price between 'basic wireless + landline' @ $55 and Home Fiber Starter + Landline @ $70 the $15 per month more removes so many headaches - As long as the provider chosen delivers the landline over the ONT

It's $45 not $55 - source - which makes it $25 diference, but even $15 can easily be make it or break it on a pension. I'm with @michaelmurfy with relatives on the Spark basic wireless/landline combo and it's absolutely rock solid.

freitasm:

When in-laws moved a few years ago I talked them into cancelling the landline, since both had a mobile each.

They never had a problem. Sometimes it's us thinking they couldn't cope. Have you asked?

Being 900km away, the reliance on, and regular use of the landline amongst a circle of contacts still doing the same makes the redundancy and familiarity worth keeping it.
