Dairusire:

I believe he was saying the quote could come out at 1k, not that it would cost 1k to get a quote.

yes i got that bit, so I'm confused why they didn't get a quote to see what it would ACTUALLY cost

Check out my old thread from 10 years ago - specifically chose the garage to keep the ONT placement.  Cheaper to get a data  savvy sparky to put an ethernet cable from the garage to where you want your wifi router in the house

Our install in the house we purchased was/is awful as shown in the below photo.

The geniuses at chorus installed the optical cable down the inside corner of a wall, looks like my 12 yo did it. I’m guessing their logic (or lack of) was if the door is open it’s hidden. The ONT is mounted on the wall and we have to run a power lead across the floor against the wall to get power to it. It currently looks different as we have an Ethernet cable running around the corner of the room to the router on the other side of the room - not ideal and looks like a flat rather than a house, so to those saying run an ethernet cable to the OP it doesn’t always work, or it looks garbage.

I do have a colleague fortunately whose husband was a chorus tech who can move the ONT across the room for a box of beer, I just haven’t arranged it yet. My wide also worked for an electrical firm and I got a long run of the appropriate cable to run from the ONT back to the house insertion point if something goes awry with pulling the existing cable up and running it through the inside of another wall.
