We have several cordless phones, Uniden brand - from two different bases. Swapped cables and make no difference. Both phone lines do the same. I wish it was that simple.

BTW Niel, the first call that Maverick checked was perfect quality, but the second was terrible. The line even dropped the connection.

Also to note: During this time the ADSL2+ stays connected without any disconnects nor interrupted Internet use.

@gtxboyracer - what hardware version is your D-Link 604? Look at it's label, it may say something like A3 or B2 or GenII. If it's a version A, I've had many issues with these on VFX.
Also, anything else happening on your local network at same time e.g. P2P stuff?

No i don't use P2P much at all.. its a Generation II one of the latest releases.. i did have a Version A a few years ago now. but that has long since gone.

Is the SPA2102 in the DMZ zone? Also, post some line stats for you DSL connection. Some off peak (9am - 3pm, excluding lunchtime) & on peak (7:30pm - 10pm) speedtests to www.xnet.co.nz/speedtest would also be helpful.

Your line stats look all good
Your speed test for off peak is all good - will be interesting to compare to peak time result later.

I recommend giving the SPA2102 a reserved IP address: i.e. the router assigns the same IP to this device each time. So basically it is a static IP, but the SPA picks it up from the router (this may be the way you have already configured this).
Then yes, set DMZ to point to this IP

Do you mainly have call quality issues at night only? Or daytime too?

it happens both, and its completely random.. although i made a call this morning and it was really clear.

Yeah my SPA2102 has always had a Static IP 10.1.1.50
I'll set the DMZ to that IP and see if it makes any difference..

Hi,

Whilst not necessary, a DMZ definitely can help. Some routers (dlink's
particularly) mess with the SIP traffic, unless ports are forwarded or
the ATA is on a DMZ, causing call dropouts etc.

If you'd prefer to port forward than DMZ the ports that need to be
opened are as follows:

TCP/UDP Ports 8060 ? 8065 Signalling

TCP/UDP Ports 5060 ? 5065 Signalling

UDP Ports 35384 ? 37384 Media

Yes that's pretty accurate, it may help if your router has been causing the issue so easy to try it .

I checked out the 0800 call this arvo and it all looks good, any issues with that call ?

I have had call quality issues with dropouts etc.
Tracked one issue down to my DSL connection. What was happening was that sometimes when I restarted my router, my dsl connection was only getting 64k upstream! Which was not conducive to the outgoing part of my calls. So the People at the other end of the call could hardly hear me lol.

Another restart and most of the time it would connect @ ~ 800k upstream.
I wonder if this happens often for other users? I also wonder what could be causing my dsl modem to connect @64k upstream.....

FWIW, I use a Linksys WAG200 + WRT54G running asterisk, and a PAP2t plumbed back into the central phone system at home.

The only thing relevant here in this case is the cheap ADSL modem. Would love an AT AR440 but thats out of the budget right now.

Soo is it the modem or the DSL connection?
Whoops looks like I am jacking the thread but I really mean to say with any VOIP service over DSL here in NZ it will never be as reliable as a PSTN line. Also, troubleshooting any issues is inherently more difficult because of all the possible points of failure.

I'd think it might even be your connection settings inside the modem :S
have you set the DNS properly? i know when mine was left to autoconfig, it would pickup the completely wrong DNS's

Also try a firmware upgrade.
I'm in a similar boat :( have a 1 year old netgear, which works alright but only syncs at 7000kb
then I plug in my new Asus wireless modem, 15000kb sync, but I can't use my PAP2T on it :( since it's firewalled/PIP is interfering with it. even adding it to the DMZ doesn't work or adding in ports. It worked once, but my net didn't work :S so it's one or the other

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.
